Singular — General — Indefinite

1974
Von Freytag’s little book contains scarcely any information on the logic of logophoric terms. We therefore have no choice but to give considerable weight to his brief remarks on this topic. The reader will remember that he says: “…“der (die, das)” heisst das Element” (1961/65; cp. III-4).

NONREAL EIGENVALUES OF SINGULAR INDEFINITE STURM–LIOUVILLE PROBLEMS

Rocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics
A singular indefinite Sturm-Liouville problem \(-(py')' + q y = \lambda w y\) with \(p, |w| > 0\) a.e. is considered on a finite interval \((a, b)\) equipped with self-adjoint boundary conditions (in an indefinite sense). In case of sign changes of \(w\) there may appear nonreal eigenvalues.

Positive periodic solution to indefinite singular Liénard equation

Positivity, 2018
The authors consider a scalar equation of the type \[ x''+f(x)x'+\frac{b(t)}{x}=p(t)\,, \] where \(f:{\mathbb R}\to{\mathbb R}\) is continuous, and \(b,p:{\mathbb R}\to{\mathbb R}\) are continuous and \(T\)-periodic. Under some assumptions on the functions \(b\) and \(p\), they prove the existence of a positive \(T\)-periodic solution.

The spectra of indefinite singular Sturm-Liouville operators

2022

Indefinite Eigenvalue Problems with Several Singular Points and Turning Points

Mathematische Nachrichten, 2001
The authors' summary: The authors consider a general case of eigenvalue problems with two-point boundary conditions on a finite interval generated by a differential equation with an indefinite weight function which has several zeros and/or poles. As a basic result, the authors derive asymptotic estimates on a special fundamental system of solutions to ...

Preconditioning of Indefinite and Almost Singular Finite Element Elliptic Equations

SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 1998
Summary: This paper deals with two ways of solving discretized finite element elliptic equations with indefinite and almost singular matrices. Such problems typically arise when applying the shifted inverse power iteration method to the generalized eigenvalue problem \(A u=\lambda B u\) where \(A\) is defined from some discretized equation by a finite ...

Singular unitary representations and indefinite harmonic theory

2008
Abstract Square-integrable harmonic spaces are defined and studied in a homogeneous indefinite metric setting. In the process, Dolbeault cohomologies are unitarized, and singlar unitary representations are obtained and studied.

The Singular Indefinite Article with Mass Nouns

2008
This talk bears on the occurrence of the singular indefinite article in noun phrases whose head noun may be regarded as 'mass'. This apparently paradoxical combination is illustrated in three languages: French, English and Haitian creole, and compared with the semantic equivalents in Hebrew.

Singular Perturbation Problems Using Indefinite Lyapunov Functions

2017
With a dynamic system of differential equations consisting of many variables the singular perturbation methods are of great importance.
