Indentation Coefficient and Indentation Behavior of Bamboo

Wood and Fiber Science, 2020
Bamboo hardness test standards are not available. The study aimed to develop a new method of testing bamboo indentation hardness. With the V-shaped prismatic head, bamboo rings with different lengths were tested. The V-shaped indentation coefficient (IC) was defined. The results showed that the IC had a good correlation with compression strength. The V-

A nano-indentation model for spherical indenters

Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering, 2006
A model is developed for nano-indentation with spherical indenters. It is based on the Taylor dislocation model and is an extension of Qu et al's (2006 Int. J. Plast. 22 1265?86) micro-indentation model for spherical indenters to nano-indentation. For relatively large indenters (e.g. radii on the order of 100??m), the present model degenerates to Qu et

Effect of the indenter size on the indentation of aluminum

Materials Characterization, 2006
Abstract The indentation behavior of annealed Al was examined using spherical indenters of different radii (0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 mm). The indentation stress–strain curves displayed similar strain-hardening behavior regardless of the size of indenter, while the altitude increased with the decrease of the size of indenter.

A Critical Evaluation of Indentation Techniques for Measuring Fracture Toughness: I

, 1981
The application of indentation techniques to the evaluation of fracture toughness is examined critically, in two parts. In this first part, attention is focused on an approach which involves direct measurement of Vickers-produced radial cracks as a ...

The effect of indenter geometry on the elastic response to indentation [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1994
The paper describes various analytical procedures that account for the influence of the geometry of a rigid indenter upon the measured contact compliance of a smooth perfectly elastic half space. The analytical solutions provide a means of interrelating the reaction force, P, and the displacement, h, characteristics in terms of the contact geometry and

Composition dependence of indentation deformation and indentation cracking in glass

Acta Materialia, 2013
Abstract Crack initiation and deformation behaviors of oxide glasses belonging to different chemical systems were studied using the Vickers indentation test. The crack initiation resistance is chiefly governed by the extents to which densification and isochoric shear flow develop in a process zone beneath and within the contact area.

Dislocation nucleation and defect structure during surface indentation

, 1998
We model indentation of a metal surface by combining an atomistic metal with a hard-sphere indenter. This work provides atomistic imaging of dislocation nucleation during displacement controlled indentation on a passivated surface.
