Periodic topological lattice with different indentation hardness on opposite surfaces
Different surface properties are needed simultaneously in many applications, especially under an indentation load or impact load. This study proposes one class of novel periodic topological mechanical metamaterials, 2D topological honeycomb structure and

Indentation Size Effect on the Hardness of Silicon Carbide Ceramics [PDF]
The Vickers hardness of CVD SiC ceramics is determined as a function of the indentation load. Vickers hardness pyramid-shaped sharp diamond indenter with angle between opposite faces at an angle of 136° was used to apply five indentation loads of 4.91; 9.

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Investigation of the mechanism of the indentation size effect for titanium
In this study, we investigated the mechanism of the indentation size effect for Ti, whose crystal structure is hexagonal close-packed. Indentation tests were performed for two types of single-crystal Ti with different crystal orientations: (0001) and ...

The Effect of Nitrogen Flow Rate on the Loadbearing Capacity from Nano- to Macro-Hardness of Austenitic Stainless Steels Magnetron Sputtering-Coated with Stainless Steel Films [PDF]
UNS S31603 stainless steel (SS) substrates were covered by reactive magnetron-sputtering with protective SS coatings of the same steel specification. A mechanical characterization study (through nano-, micro- and macro-hardness tests) of samples obtained

Laser Metal Deposited Ti4822 Hollow Pipe: Experimental and Computational Modelling Study
Laser metal deposition (LMD) of a crack‐free built Ti4822 alloys is challenging. This article reports outstanding characteristics of a hollow pipe that is built with LMD technology when a predicted, nontransformation substrate temperature of 800 °C is used.

Temperature dependent mechanical property of PZT film: an investigation by nanoindentation.
Load-depth curves of an unpoled Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) film composite as a function of temperature were measured by nanoindentation technique. Its reduce modulus and hardness were calculated by the typical Oliver-Pharr method.
