Independent activity of catalase haematins

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1970
Abstract The peroxidatic mechanism for the catalytic reaction and for peroxidation has been extended from haematin basis to include the catalase molecule as a whole. It has been shown that interaction among single haematin units does not affect the form of the rate equations for the catalatic reaction.

Two independent indices of activation

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1960
Abstract Two indices of “activation”, Wenger's estimate of relative autonomic balance (Ā) and per cent-time alpha, were obtained from 42 male undergraduate subjects. No correlation was found between them. The indices were judged to measure independent functions, and it was concluded that a general “activation” theory of emotions is not yet justified.

On the demand for independent and active audit committees

Journal of Corporate Finance, 2000
Abstract We extend the literature on director independence and the role of the board by focusing on the importance of audit committees in the contracting process. We find that the demand for independent and active audit committees is positively related to the demand for accounting certification.

Active singling out of shunt independence

Child's Nervous System, 1994
The availability of telemetric devices for intracranial pressure (ICP) measurements in line with a multipurpose valve (MPV) was shown to be the ideal condition for safe investigation of the problem of shunt independence in 21 patients. After percutaneous closure of the shunt, all but 4 patients developed some degree of intracranial hypertension.

Acetylcholinesterase activation of peritoneal macrophages is independent of catalytic activity

Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, 1994
1. In diverse tissues, acetylcholinesterase appears to play a critical role in the functional state of cells completely dependent of cholinergic transmission. However, very little is known about the mechanisms and actual molecular structures mediating the fundamental interactions between this protein and the cellular membrane. 2.

Synergy among Seemingly Independent Activities*

Contemporary Accounting Research, 2002
Abstract“Synergy” implies that the value of activities undertaken jointly is greater than the sum of the values of the individual activities. Reasons cited for synergy include economies of scale, benefits due to vertical integration, and efficiency gains from shared inputs and skills.

Alloantigen-Activated CML Suppression Independent of Cytotoxic Activity

The Journal of Immunology, 1979
Abstract The generation of T cell-mediated lympholysis (CML) in murine mixed lymphocyte cultures (MLC) can be impeded if allogeneic responding and stimulating cells are incubated in the presence of lymphocytes that have been activated by prior exposure to alloantigens (1–6).

Growth Factor-Dependent and -Independent Activation of mTORC2

Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2020
The target of rapamycin complex 2 (TORC2) was discovered in 2002 in budding yeast. Its mammalian counterpart, mTORC2, was first described in 2004. Soon thereafter it was demonstrated that mTORC2 directly phosphorylates Akt on Ser473, ending a long search for the elusive 'second' insulin-responsive Akt kinase.

A Direct, Plasmin Independent Assay For Plasminogen Activation

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1981
We have modified the direct, 125I-plasminogen cleavage assay for plasminogen activator (PA) and employed it to compare urokinase (UK), tissue activator (TA), and PAs produced by cultured bovine aortic endothelial cells. The assay is based on conversion of single chain plasminogen to two chain plasmin as revealed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in
