EEG Brain Rhythms During Resting‐State Wakefulness and Sleep in Elderly Expert Meditators
Compared to controls, elderly expert meditators exhibited (1) more preserved resting‐state brain activity, (2) less altered sleep architecture, and (3) EEG features indicative of heightened cognitive states during NREM sleep. Importantly, several of the metrics that differed between groups also showed consistent correlations with meditation expertise ...

Robust techniques for independent component analysis (ICA) with noisy data
In this contribution, we propose approaches to independent component analysis (ICA) when the measured signals are contaminated by additive noise. We extend existing adaptive algorithms with equivariant properties in order to considerably reduce the bias in the demixing matrix caused by measurement noise.

ABSTRACT Lucid dreaming, defined as the experience of becoming aware of dreaming while dreaming, offers a unique window into a state of consciousness characterised by a blending of the sensory vividness of REM sleep with the self‐awareness of wakefulness. While past functional imaging has shed light on the neural activity supporting lucid dreaming, the

How Do They Feel? Processing Others’ Emotions in Second Language Discourse
Abstract Emotion that is implied rather than literally expressed requires the processing of literal and pragmatic information. Processing multiple information types is an easy, fast process in the first language (L1) but can be costlier in a second language (L2), especially when emotional content is involved.

Role of extracellular carbonic anhydrase in the polar diatom Fragilariopsis cylindrus
Summary Diatoms are major primary producers in productive polar oceans, where cold temperatures and high CO2 solubility raise questions as to whether they rely on the CO2‐concentrating mechanism (CCM) to saturate photosynthesis. Knowledge of CCM function will help better predict the sensitivity of diatom primary production to warming and acidifying ...

ABSTRACT What are the conditions under which business corporations expand their institutional power? This paper argues that institutional power is affected by the architecture of the “acquisition regime”—the set of formal (and informal) rules that govern how states purchase public services.
