An age-structured extension to the vectorial capacity model. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Vectorial capacity and the basic reproductive number (R(0)) have been instrumental in structuring thinking about vector-borne pathogen transmission and how best to prevent the diseases they cause.

Global analysis of muon decay measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We have performed a global analysis of muon decay measurements to establish model-independent limits on the space-time structure of the muon decay matrix element. We find limits on the scalar, vector and tensor coupling of right- and left-handed muons to

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Independent Subspace Analysis Using Three Scatter Matrices

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2016
In independent subspace analysis (ISA) one assumes that the components of the observed random vector are linear combinations of the components of a latent random vector with independent subvectors.

Feature Extraction from Regenerated EEG – A Better Approach for ICA Based Eye Blink Artifact Detection

open access: yesFrontiers in Biomedical Technologies, 2023
Purpose: Independent Component Analysis (ICA) decomposition is a commonly used technique for eye blink artifact detection from Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Feature extraction from the decomposed ICs is a prime step for blink detection. This paper

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Auxiliary function-based algorithm for blind extraction of a moving speaker

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Audio, Speech, and Music Processing, 2022
In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for blind source extraction (BSE) of a moving acoustic source recorded by multiple microphones. The algorithm is based on independent vector extraction (IVE) where the contrast function is optimized using the ...

Decorrelation of Neutral Vector Variables: Theory and Applications

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we propose novel strategies for neutral vector variable decorrelation. Two fundamental invertible transformations, namely serial nonlinear transformation and parallel nonlinear transformation, are proposed to carry out the decorrelation ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Minimal Distortion Principle versus Back Projection for Independent Vector Analysis

open access: yesENP Engineering Science Journal
This short communication deals with the scaling ambiguity issue in blind convolutive source separation when performed in the frequency domain. It discusses the relationship between two major techniques, mainly the Minimal Distortion Principle and the ...
