A study of the RICH gas refractive index

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2011
Abstract The Cherenkov RICH detector of the COMPASS experiment uses C4F10 as radiator gas. The refractive index of the radiator gas varies with temperature, atmospheric pressure and gas purity. Accurate knowledge of these parameters is essential for the particle identification performance. A modified Jamin interferometer was proposed, constructed and

Indexing and Normalizing Natural Gas Endowment

SPE Latin American and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference, 2010
Abstract A novel method is presented for indexing and normalizing natural gas endowment. The approach is demonstrated with data from Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) countries. Endowment, as defined by the USGS, refers to the sum of known volumes of hydrocarbons (cumulative production plus remaining reserves) and undiscovered volumes.

A Performance Index for Gas Chromatographic Columns

Nature, 1957
J. Friend and E. Watson have suggested that if an adequate ‘performance index’ could be defined for gas chromatographic columns, a much-needed clarification could be achieved in the interchange of data among experimenters.

The index of refraction of an irregular ionized gas

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1962
The index of refraction of a slightly ionized gas has been determined for a gas in which the degree of ionization varies irregularly and the scale of the irregularities is small compared with a wavelength. It has been found that where and ϕ is a form factor that is unity for stratification perpendicular to the field, one-third for isotropic ...

Retention index in temperature-programmed gas chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 1999
A persistent feature in the development of temperature-programmed gas chromatography (TPGC) has been the search of a retention index IT, defined as a relationship between the retention of the analyte and two members of an homologous series enclosing it. The motivation is to find for TPGC a parameter IT resembling the properties of the isothermal Kovats

Programmed-temperature gas chromatographic retention index

Journal of Chromatography A, 1993
Thirty years of studies on the definitions and calculation methods of the gas chromatographic programmed-temperature retention index values and the various conversion methods between retention values under different gas chromatographic conditions have been reviewed.

Complex Refractive Index of an Ideal Monatomic Gas

Physical Review, 1962
The main results of some previous work of the author on this subject are rederived in a more rigorous fashion. In particular, no appeal is made to perturbation theory or to the author's "damping operator" formalism, and closer attention is paid to the question of proper averaging over configurations of absorbers. All effects due to translational motion
