Evaluation of the dose reduction effect of crystalline lens exposure in cone‐beam computed tomography with bismuth eye shield for image‐guided radiation therapy: An anthropomorphic phantom study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the dose‐exposure reduction effect of a crystalline lens with a bismuth eye shield using cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT) for head image‐guided radiation therapy. The ocular surface dose of the head phantom (THRA‐1) is defined as a crystalline lens exposure dose and is measured using a radiophotoluminescence ...

Mitochondrial DNA disorders in neuromuscular diseases in diverse populations

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Abstract Neuromuscular features are common in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) disorders. The genetic architecture of mtDNA disorders in diverse populations is poorly understood. We analysed mtDNA variants from whole‐exome sequencing data in neuromuscular patients from South Africa, Brazil, India, Turkey and Zambia. In 998 individuals, there were two definite

Determining the Necessity of Post‐Processing Heat Treatment for the 316L Stainless Steel Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion through Evaluation of Mechanical and Corrosion Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article examines the effect of postprocessing heat treatment on 316L stainless steel (SS316L) produced via laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Heat treatment slightly affects property anisotropy, reduces strength, and enhances elongation. However, it increases corrosion susceptibility due to nanoscale precipitations, though overall corrosion ...

Bioinspired Design of Isotropic Lattices with Tunable and Controllable Anisotropy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces nested isotropic lattices, integrating architectural elements like nesting orders and orientations inspired by bioarchitectures. The design enables tunable anisotropy across nine mono‐nest and twenty multi‐nest lattices with 252 parametric variations, demonstrating transitions from shear‐ to tensile‐compression‐dominant behaviors ...

Reducing metabolic burden in the PACEmid evolver system by remastering high‐copy phagemid vectors

open access: yesEngineering Biology, 2022
Orthogonal or non‐cross‐reacting transcription factors are used in synthetic biology as components of genetic circuits. Brödel et al. (2016) engineered 12 such cIλ transcription factor variants using a directed evolution ‘PACEmid’ system.

Nonlinearity and Domain Switching in a 3D‐Printed Architected Ferroelectric

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
By combining functional properties measurement with in situ 2D X‐ray microdiffraction experiments, it is shown that nonlinear polarization and strain responses of a 3D‐printed architected ferroelectric are driven by localized progression of domain switching, which depends on nonuniform electric‐field distribution as well as evolving stress fields.

Deindustrializzazione e mitopoiesi. Lo spazio della fabbrica dismessa

open access: yesIm@go. A Journal of the Social Imaginary, 2015
The closure of Fiat’s plant of Termini Imerese is a tragic event that involved thousands of people. However, this event created a situation in which different social agents (citizens and institutions) started an imaginary process aimed to re-modulate and

Design and Evaluation of 3D‐Printed Polylactic Acid Composites Reinforced with Biodegradable Bamboo Powder and Jute Powder

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study investigates 3D‐printed polylactic acid (PLA) composites with biodegradable bamboo and jute powder fillers. Mechanical, thermal, structural properties, and rheological behavior are discussed to evaluate composite performance. Morphological characterization indicates uniform dispersion and adhesion of the fillers in the PLA matrix with the ...
