Action of Juvenile Hormone on Imaginal Discs of the Indian Meal Moth
1976The action of the corpora allata, which secrete juvenile hormone (JH), on the development of imaginal discs has received limited attention during the three decades that followed Vogt’s pioneering work with Diptera. Vogt (1943) reported that removal of the medial cells (corpora allata) of the ring gland in larvae resulted in accelerated development of ...

Abstract The relative degree of juvenile hormone binding to various subcellular fractions of larvae of the Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella , was studied by u.v. difference spectroscopy. Difference absorbance changes at 280 nm due to binding of the hormone to proteins(s) were obtained in six particulate fractions from a sucrose density ...

Influence of temperature on Indian-meal moth larvae infected with a granulosis virus
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1971Abstract Larvae of the Indian-meal moth, Plodia interpunctella , were exposed to a granulosis virus at 22, 27, 32, and 37°C. Oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production were measured with a gas chromatograph. Respiratory quotients (RQs) showed that larval respiration varied with temperature.

The Effects of a Sublethal Baculovirus Infection in the Indian Meal Moth, Plodia interpunctella
The Journal of Animal Ecology, 19941. Baculoviruses are often highly pathogenic to their insect hosts, but theoretical studies have shown that sublethal infections may also play an important role in host population dynamics. Previous experiments have suggested that deleterious effects are caused by sublethal infections in a number of host-pathogen interactions, but these studies have ...

Antimicrobial activity of Indian meal moth silk, Plodia interpunctella
2021© 2020, Indian Academy of Sciences. In this study, inhibitory effects of crude silk produced by 5th larval instar of moth Plodia interpunctella, as well as ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, hexane and dichloromethane silk extracts were evaluated against 18 bacterial strains (ATCC strains/isolates) and 6 fungal ATCC strains in vitro.
