Surface grain-size mapping of braided channels from SfM photogrammetry [PDF]

open access: yesEarth Surface Dynamics
Braided channels are known as fluvial systems with a high heterogeneity of physical conditions, resulting from particularly active interacting processes of coarse sediment sorting and transport.

Distribution and Habitat Suitability of Artemisia annua in China Under Climate Change Scenarios

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
We used an optimized MaxEnt model to assess the current and future suitable habitats of Artemisia annua in China under CMIP6 climate scenarios. Suitable areas are projected to contract overall and shift northeastward, primarily constrained by winter temperature and elevation.

Computer Vision–Based Orthorectification and Georeferencing of Aerial Image Sets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Generating a georeferenced mosaic map from unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)imagery is a challenging task. Direct and indirect georeferencing methods may fail to generate an accurate mosaic map due to the erroneous exterior orientation parameters stored in ...

Toward Consistent Canopy Characterization From Low‐Cost UAV Imagery

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
We show that UAV‐based crown segmentation can reliably characterize dominant canopy trees in a structurally complex tropical forest. Focusing on these key individuals improves the assessment of forest structure and supports ecological monitoring at multiple scales. ABSTRACT Monitoring tropical forest structure at landscape scale requires cost‐effective

Transitioning From Rice‐Wheat to Diversified Rice‐Based Rotations Enhances Rice Production and Mitigates Greenhouse Gas Emissions Across Asia

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Rice‐wheat cropping systems underpin food security across Asia but also represent major sources of agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Replacing wheat with diversified crop species to create alternative rice‐based cropping systems may become an effective strategy for sustainable production.
