Ultra-high-strength (UHS) fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC) has a much larger tensile strength than normal concrete and engineers should thus consider the tensile strength as a design parameter. However, in the current design codes, the tensile strength of concrete is not considered a major design parameter.

Correlating the Dynamic Modulus and the Indirect Tensile Strength of Asphalt Concrete
Advanced Materials Research, 2013This study has developed a relationship between the Dynamic Modulus (E*) and the Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) of Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) using standard laboratory tests programs. Two types of SuperPave (SP) mixtures were considered namely, SP-III with 15% Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) materials and SP-III with 35% RAP materials. Cylindrical samples

Experimental and Numerical Studies on Determination of Indirect Tensile Strength of Rocks
Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2011Indirect tension tests using Brisbane tuff Brazilian disc specimens under standard Brazilian jaws and various loading arcs were performed. The standard Brazilian indirect tensile tests caused catastrophic, crushing failure of the disc specimens, rather than the expected tensile splitting failure initiated by a central crack.

Investigation of Anisotropic Behavior of Montney Shale Under Indirect Tensile Strength Test
Canadian Unconventional Resources and International Petroleum Conference, 2010Abstract Located in a large area spanning the British Columbia and Alberta border, the Montney shale formation is one of the largest economically feasible resource plays in North America. Hydraulic Fracturing is one of the stimulation methods to enhance the gas production in which fractures induced by hydraulic loading are created ...

Measurement of Indirect Tensile Strength of Anisotropic Rocks by the Ring Test
Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2001This paper presents a new approach, combined with the Boundary Element Method (BEM) analysis and the diametrical compression on a thin disc with a small central hole, referred to as the ring test, for determining the indirect tensile strength of anisotropic rocks.

Investigating the Effect of Cyclic Loading on the Indirect Tensile Strength of Rocks
Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2011This paper presents the results of laboratory experiments during the investigation of the stress-strain characteristics of Brisbane tuff disc specimens under diametral compressive cyclic loading. Two different cyclic loading methods were used: namely, sinusoidal cyclic loading and cyclic loading with increasing mean level.

3D elastic solutions for point load and Brazilian indirect tensile strength tests
2013In this paper, an analytical solution is developed of the stress and displacement components in a three-dimensional solid disc subjected to Brazilian and point load test boundary conditions. The methodology is initially based on introducing the load distribution in both tests using the double Fourier series technique.

A New Method for Predicting Indirect Tensile Strength of Sandstone Rock Samples
2020The tensile strength (σt) of a rock plays an important role in the reliable construction of several civil structures such as dam foundations and types of tunnels and excavations. Determination of σt in the laboratory can be expensive, difficult, and time-consuming for certain projects. Due to the difficulties associated with the experimental procedure,
