An Indirect Tensile Test for Masonry Units

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1978
Abstract The failure of masonry in laboratory testing of walls and prisms and certain aspects of grouted construction is often the result of tensile splitting. These tensile stresses arise from differences in modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio between the masonry unit and mortar or grout. Since tensile splitting is so prevalent in

Experimental and Numerical Studies on Determination of Indirect Tensile Strength of Rocks

open access: yesRock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2011
Indirect tension tests using Brisbane tuff Brazilian disc specimens under standard Brazilian jaws and various loading arcs were performed. The standard Brazilian indirect tensile tests caused catastrophic, crushing failure of the disc specimens, rather ...

Indirect tensile test applied to anisotropic materials

Materials and Structures, 1994
The paper presents the general theory of stresses and displacements in a two-dimensional cross-anisotropic disc subjected to two diametrically opposite loads. Such an indirect tensile test is often used for paving materials and this theory provides the necessary background for the determination of the stiffness, Poisson's ratio, and the anisotropy ...

Indirect Tensile Strength of Concrete Containing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement Using the Superpave Indirect Tensile Test

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Concrete mixes containing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) were evaluated by the Superpave® Indirect Tensile (IDT) strength test using a constant force-control and a displacement-control rate. The IDT strength of concrete without RAP at early age was seen to increase as the temperature decreased.

Determination ofcandφof rocks from indirect tensile strength and uniaxial compression tests

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 2014
Cohesion (c) and friction (φ) angle are the two key parameters required in numerical simulations and designs of underground openings, excavations, and foundations in rocks.

Using Indirect Tensile Cracking Test Data for Quality Control and Acceptance

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2023
The Virginia Department of Transportation currently requires the use of the indirect tensile cracking test (IDT-CT) in accordance with ASTM D8225 in its balanced mix design specifications to evaluate the cracking resistance of several unmodified dense-graded asphalt surface mixtures.

Evaluation of the indirect tensile stiffness modulus test

Sixth International RILEM Symposium on Performance Testing and Evaluation of Bituminous Materials, 2003
In view to enhance in the field of characterization of asphalt mixes and to develop new test methods, RTE (the central laboratory of SCREG) has acquired a universal testing machine designed to conduct indirect tensile stiffness modulus testing. The interest of this technique is that it is time-saving compared to complex modulus and direct tension ...

Measurement of Indirect Tensile Strength of Anisotropic Rocks by the Ring Test

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2001
This paper presents a new approach, combined with the Boundary Element Method (BEM) analysis and the diametrical compression on a thin disc with a small central hole, referred to as the ring test, for determining the indirect tensile strength of anisotropic rocks.

A study of asphalt aging using Indirect Tensile Strength test

Construction and Building Materials, 2015
Abstract While dynamic modulus, diametrical resilient modulus, and loss of ductility are the most common parameters to study aging, this study determines laboratory equivalence of field aging using an Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) test for its simplicity and wide usages in Asphalt Concrete (AC) performance evaluation.

Micro-tensile bond testing of resin cements to dentin and an indirect resin composite

Dental Materials, 2002
Micro-tensile bond strength (microTBS) evaluation and fractographic analysis were used to compare four resin cement systems (AC: All-Bond 2/Choice; RX: Single Bond/RelyX ARC; SB: Super-Bond C & B; and PF: Panavia F) in indirect composite/dentin adhesive joints.Flat dentin surfaces were created on extracted human third molars.
