Using Indirect Tensile Cracking Test Data for Quality Control and Acceptance
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2023The Virginia Department of Transportation currently requires the use of the indirect tensile cracking test (IDT-CT) in accordance with ASTM D8225 in its balanced mix design specifications to evaluate the cracking resistance of several unmodified dense-graded asphalt surface mixtures.

Evaluation of the indirect tensile stiffness modulus test
Sixth International RILEM Symposium on Performance Testing and Evaluation of Bituminous Materials, 2003In view to enhance in the field of characterization of asphalt mixes and to develop new test methods, RTE (the central laboratory of SCREG) has acquired a universal testing machine designed to conduct indirect tensile stiffness modulus testing. The interest of this technique is that it is time-saving compared to complex modulus and direct tension ...

A study of asphalt aging using Indirect Tensile Strength test
Construction and Building Materials, 2015Abstract While dynamic modulus, diametrical resilient modulus, and loss of ductility are the most common parameters to study aging, this study determines laboratory equivalence of field aging using an Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS) test for its simplicity and wide usages in Asphalt Concrete (AC) performance evaluation.

Poisson’s Ratio of Asphalt Concrete Mixes Using Indirect Tensile Test
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2018Abstract Increased interest in mechanistic evaluation of flexible pavement structures has brought a demand for accurate and practical methods, models, or both to estimate the mechanical properties of asphalt concrete mixtures. One of these properties is the Poisson’s ratio (ν) of asphalt concrete mixtures, which is often assumed to have ...

Uniaxial compression tests and the validity of indirect tensile strength
Journal of Materials Science, 1990So-called “indirect” tensile tests have been adopted for various reasons, especially ease of execution and supposed freedom from several notable interferences. The extensive literature reveals much disparity in the conditions for such tests, and no consensus conclusion concerning the optimum protocol or even the interpretation of the results.

Digital Image Processing Technique to Indirect Tensile Test of Asphalt Mixtures
International Conference on Transportation Engineering 2007, 2007A digital image processing technique is used for conventional indirect tensile test of asphalt mixtures, by which non-connect measuring process is realized on the horizontal and vertical deformation of specimen. In this system, the shape and deformation of the specimen are automatically monitored and recorded.

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2009
Abstract This paper examines the indirect diametrical tensile (IDT) testing method and its suitability for determining the tensile strength and stiffness modulus properties of a lightly cementitiously stabilized granular base material that are required for the design of a pavement structure involving this material.

Cracking Healing Evaluation of HMA Using Indirect Tensile Stiffness Modulus Test
2021Crack healing is characterised by the recovery of stiffness in asphalt concrete after a period of rest. Micro damage occurs in asphalt pavement layers when there is continuous reduction in its stiffness modulus, which causes the formation of micro-cracks.

Implementation of the SuperPave Indirect Tensile Test (IDT) Analysis Procedure [PDF]
Cracking is one of the most severe distress modes of asphalt pavements. Thus characterizing the fracture resistance properties of asphalt mixtures is the key issue for improving the performance related mixture design. The present master thesis project addresses the implementation of the theoretical framework, which is used to characterize the fracture ...
