Individual-Tree Segmentation from UAV–LiDAR Data Using a Region-Growing Segmentation and Supervoxel-Weighted Fuzzy Clustering Approach

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Accurate individual-tree segmentation is essential for precision forestry. In previous studies, the canopy height model-based method was convenient to process, but its performance was limited owing to the loss of 3D information, and point-based methods ...

Flexible wearable electronics for cardiovascular monitoring from surface signals to deep physiological insights

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
This review organizes flexible wearable electronics for cardiovascular monitoring into four interconnected information layers: surface electrophysiology, hemodynamic sensing, vascular imaging, and biofluid biomarker analysis. This framework clarifies how electrical rhythm, vascular loading, structural and flow‐related features, and biochemical states ...

Dental enamel hypoplasia and intra‐tooth isotope records as indicators of physiological stress and environmental variability in Early Pleistocene hippopotamids from Melka Kunture (Upper Awash, Ethiopia)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Enamel hypoplasia results from temporary disruptions of enamel deposition during tooth development. It is widely used as an indicator of physiological stress in archeological and paleontological contexts; yet, its relationship with environmental conditions during tooth formation remains poorly constrained.

Living on the edge: Habitat characteristics of northern myotis at the periphery of its distribution

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Northern myotis selected tall trees with minimal decay, in patches with other roosting options. In our study area, these trees occurred in narrow bands within an agricultural matrix, differing from contiguous forest at the core of the species' distribution. Nevertheless, bats selected the tallest trees in the densest patches available.

First 20 Years of Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry as the Mainstream Analytical Technique

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review traces the first 20 years of Orbitrap mass spectrometry as a mainstream high‑resolution and accurate‑mass (HR/AM) technology. It outlines the historical development of the Orbitrap analyzer, the evolution of major instrument families, and the key technological innovations that enabled its widespread adoption. Particular emphasis is

Evaluating a modified StarDist Implementation for Individual Tree Detection and Crown Delineation in heterogeneous Landscapes

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences
Abstract. Individual tree detection and crown delineation (ITDCD) in dehesa landscapes is complicated by geometric distortions from steep terrain, varying tree densities, and the partly multi-crown 'broccoli-like' structure of holm and cork oaks. This study evaluates the usability of a modified StarDist deep learning model, which has recently shown ...

Property Rights Entrepreneurship: The Drive for Product, Asset, and Resource Excludability

open access: yesManagerial and Decision Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Property rights are foundational to market economies, and entrepreneurial activity depends heavily on the excludability afforded by property rights. Yet, the role of entrepreneurs in shaping the evolution of property rights has been so thoroughly taken for granted that it often vanishes from analyses.

Do good neighbours compensate for bad climate? The case of sessile oak Quercus petraea in phylogenetically distant neighbourhoods

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Stressful climates threaten the performance of individuals and the survival of species, but individual performance also depends on biotic interactions with neighbours, so that ‘good' neighbours might in theory compensate for ‘bad' climates. However, what makes a good neighbour, and why, has been little studied.
