Substrate specificity of caeruloplasmin indoles and indole isosteres

Abstract Several indoles and indole isosteres have been examined as potential substrates for the oxidative enzyme caeruloplasmin. Amongst the indoles the presence of a hydroxy group on the aromatic ring of the indole nucleus is a necessary requirement for substrate activity; this hydroxy group may be at position 4, 5 or 6 of the indole nucleus.
