Photoaging Mobile Apps as a Novel Opportunity for Melanoma Prevention: Pilot Study

open access: yesJMIR mHealth and uHealth, 2017
BackgroundAround 90% of melanomas are caused by ultraviolet (UV) exposure and are therefore eminently preventable. Unhealthy tanning behavior is mostly initiated in early adolescence, often with the belief that it increases attractiveness; the problems ...

In-group rationalizations of risk and indoor tanning: A textual analysis of an online forum

open access: yes, 2016
Unlike other health behaviors, there does not appear to be a strong relationship between perceived skin cancer risk and reduction or cessation of indoor tanning bed use. This study seeks to address this inconsistency by determining how indoor tanning bed

Recent Advances in Pickering Emulsion Templated Phase Change Material Microcapsules: Design, Fabrication, and Multifunctional Applications

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 6, November 2026.
Fabrication process of phase change microcapsules using a Pickering emulsion template method and their subsequent applications. The increasing demand for efficient thermal energy storage systems has driven the development of phase change material microcapsules (PCMMs), which provide high energy‐storage density, reversible phase change, and reduced ...

Dose‐Related Gastric Toxicity of Diethyl Phthalate in Female Wistar Rats

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 11, Page 4242-4254, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Diethyl phthalate (DEP) is commonly used in cosmetics, personal care products, and pharmaceutical formulations as a low‐molecular‐weight phthalate. Despite its widespread use, information on its effects on the gastric mucosa remains limited. This study examined the dose‐related effects of DEP on inflammation, oxidative stress, gastric mucosal ...

A scoping review: Screening questionnaires for identifying tanning addiction

open access: yesCochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods
Introduction There is a growing body of evidence that ultraviolet (UV) tanning, whether practiced in indoor tanning salons or outdoors in the sun, is not only linked to detrimental health outcomes but is also addictive through both psychological and ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, Volume 2, Issue 5, October 2026.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.
