Compliant Pneumatic Feet with Real‐Time Stiffness Adaptation for Humanoid Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A compliant pneumatic foot with real‐time variable stiffness enables humanoid robots to adapt to changing terrains. Using onboard vision and pressure control, the foot modulates stiffness within each gait cycle, reducing impact forces and improving balance. The design, cast in soft silicone with embedded air chambers and Kevlar wrapping, offers durable,

Quantifying the health burden misclassification from the use of different PM2.5 exposure tier models: A case study of London [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Exposure to PM2.5 has been associated with increased mortality in urban areas. Hence, reducing the uncertainty in human exposure assessments is essential for more accurate health burden estimates.

Highly‐Conductive and Micro‐Structured Transparent Glass Substrates for Efficient and Scalable Photoelectrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work paves the way for practical photoelectrochemical water splitting devices by addressing key upscaling challenges related to substrate conductivity, absorber inhomogeneity, and mass transfer limitations. Integrated improvements in substrate engineering, material processing, device architecture, and operational conditions allow the development ...

Dispersal in microbes: fungi in indoor air are dominated by outdoor air and show dispersal limitation at short distances. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The indoor microbiome is a complex system that is thought to depend on dispersal from the outdoor biome and the occupants' microbiome combined with selective pressures imposed by the occupants' behaviors and the building itself.

Tracking of [14C]Polystyrene Nanoplastics in Pregnant Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates [14C]polystyrene nanoplastic ([14C]PS) translocation in late‐stage pregnant mice after intranasal (0.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD12, GD14, and GD16, n = 6) and intravenous administration (1.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD16, n = 6). 14C‐radiolabel allows quantitative tracking of unmodified polystyrene nanoplastics.

A Preliminary Study on Species Identification of Immature Necrophagous Phorid Flies Based on FTIR Spectroscopy

open access: yesAnimals
Phorid flies serve as the main colonizers of human remains in both indoor and burial environments. Their developmental patterns can be utilized to estimate the minimum postmortem interval (minPMI).

Synergistic Pyro‐Phototronics and Structural Anisotropy in CsAg2I3/GaN Heterostructures for High‐Performance Polarization‐Sensitive UV Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The development of polarization‐sensitive ultraviolet photodetectors is limited by poor heterojunction quality and low polarization sensitivity. This study integrates synthesized CsAg2I3 single crystals with intrinsic non‐centrosymmetry into van der Waals heterojunction devices, demonstrating pronounced pyro‐phototronic effect.

Model to Balance an Acceptable Radon Level Indoors

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
A theoretical model is presented for balancing an acceptable radon concentration in indoor air. The infiltration of radon from the ground to the indoor air can be controlled by barriers or by lowering the air pressure at the lower zone of the ground slab.
