Inducing Labor: the Impact of Health Insurance on Post-Natal Labor Supply

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2021
In this paper we analyze the role of access to health insurance plays in the widely documented, sharp fall in mother's labor supply following childbirth. Our analysis exploits variation created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which substantially expanded access to health insurance within the U.S., and richly detailed administrative tax data.

Oxytocin-induced labor augments IL-1beta-stimulated lung fluid absorption in fetal guinea pig lungs.

American Journal of Physiology - Lung cellular and Molecular Physiology, 2005
We tested the hypothesis that oxytocin-induced labor augmented IL-1beta-induced/-stimulated lung fluid absorption in preterm guinea pig fetuses. IL-1beta was administered subcutaneously daily to timed-pregnant guinea pigs for 3 days with and without ...

Relaxin—Its effect on electively induced labor

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1959
Abstract Fifty patients selected at random were treated with relaxin and compared with 50 who did not receive the hormone. In this group of 100 private patients admitted to the Maternity Division of Buffalo Children's Hospital for elective induction of labor by means of intravenous Pitocin solution and artificial rupture of the membranes, we were ...

The effect of epidural anesthesia on oxytocin-induced labor

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1967
Abstract Eighteen cases of induced labor at or near term were monitored with continuous amniotic pressure recordings, and the intensity, frequency, and uterine activity of contractions were measured. Epidural anesthesia was given at varying points in the first stage and maintained until delivery, and the progress of labor in terms of time-dilatation ...

Uterine prostaglandin concentrations in sheep during late pregnancy and adrenocorticotropin-induced labor.

Endocrinology, 1981
Concentrations of prostaglandin E (PGE), PGF, and 6-oxo-PGF1 alpha (the hydrolysis product of PGI2) were measured by RIA in different areas of myometrium, endometrium, cotyledons, amnion, and chorioallantoic membrane taken from chronically catheterized ...

Labor-Induced Hemorrhage of a Retinal Cavernous Hemangioma

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 2009
The authors present a case of a previously undiagnosed retinal cavernous hemangioma that hemorrhaged during labor. There are previous reports of labor-induced intracranial hemorrhage from central nervous system vascular malformations, but none have demonstrated intraocular hemorrhage during labor.

Lack of beta-endorphin plasma level rise in oxytocin-induced labor.

Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 1985
beta-Endorphin (beta-EP), beta-lipotropin (beta-LPH) and cortisol plasma levels were measured during labor in 18 pregnant women. In 7 cases labor progressed spontaneously and in 11 cases oxytocin (5 mIU/min) was administered to stimulate uterine ...

Acute Abdomen-Induced Preterm Labor

2018
The specific issue with acute abdomen during pregnancy is that many underlying conditions result in inflammation and infection which raise prostaglandin levels which are crucial for the normal progress of labor. Therefore, it is mandatory to stop the increased preterm production of prostaglandins.

Relationships among attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, induced labor, and selected physiological and demographic variables.

Journal of Clinical Psychology, 2004
We investigated whether events associated with physiological maternal and fetal stress during the birth process were associated with diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), alone or in combination with demographic variables.
