Element Analysis of Small and even Smaller Objects by ICPMS and LA-ICPMS
Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is increasingly used for non-traditional applications such as the analysis of solids at high spatial resolution when combined with laser ablation or the analysis of engineered nanoparticles.

Isolation of $^{236}$U and $^{239,240}$Pu from seawater samples and its determination by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry [PDF]
In this work we present and evaluate a radiochemical procedure optimised for the analysis of $^{236}$U and $^{239,240}$Pu in seawater samples by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS). The method is based on Fe(OH)$_3$ co-precipitation of actinides and uses TEVA and UTEVA extraction chromatography resins in a simplified way for the final U and Pu ...

Chemical Partitioning at Crystalline Defects in PtAu as a Pathway to Stabilize Electrocatalysts [PDF]
Dissolution of electrocatalysts during long-term and dynamic operation is a challenging problem in energy conversion and storage devices such as fuel cells and electrolyzers. To develop stable electrocatalysts, we adopt the design concept of segregation engineering, which uses solute segregation prone to electrochemical dissolution at internal defects,

Refractory high‐entropy alloys have attracted substantial attention for future ultrahigh‐temperature structural applications. Here the progression of key phase transformations in AlMo0.5NbTa0.5TiZr is established and correlated to the mechanical performance, highlighting the importance of the B2 phase.

Characterisation of Silicon Photomultipliers for Liquid Xenon Detectors [PDF]
Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) are considered as a solid-state sensor alternative to photomultiplier tubes in experiments using liquid xenon (LXe) as a radiation detection medium. The main requirements are single-photon detection of the vacuum ultraviolet scintillation light from LXe at 178$\,$nm with high resolution and detection efficiency and low ...

This study demonstrates the feasibility of fabricating free‐standing carbon paper electrodes by electroplating and galvanic replacement. Nanostructured AgM (M = Au, Pt, Pd) bimetallic catalysts are directly grown on the electrode substrate, which exhibit good performance for glycerol electrolysis, a sustainable approach for the co‐production of green ...

Neuronal iron dyshomeostasis occurs in multiple neurodegenerative diseases. Changes in the Fe(II)/Fe(III) ratio toward Fe(II) is closely related to oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and represents a hallmark feature of ferroptosis.

High precision half-life measurement of $^{147}$Sm $α$ decay from thin-film sources [PDF]
An investigation of the {\alpha}-decay of $^{147}$Sm was performed using an ultra low-background Twin Frisch-Grid Ionisation Chamber (TF-GIC). Four natural samarium samples were produced using pulsed laser deposition in ultra high vacuum. The abundance of the $^{147}$Sm isotope was mea- sured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Gemtelligence: Accelerating Gemstone classification with Deep Learning [PDF]
The value of luxury goods, particularly investment-grade gemstones, is greatly influenced by their origin and authenticity, sometimes resulting in differences worth millions of dollars. Traditionally, human experts have determined the origin and detected treatments on gemstones through visual inspections and a range of analytical methods.

2H‐Au Nanosheet‐Templated Growth of PdFe for Electrocatalytic Methanol Oxidation
2H‐to‐face‐centered cubic (fcc) phase transformation of 2H‐Au happens when PdFe alloy epitaxially grows on 2H‐Au nanosheets (NSs), forming 2H/fcc Au@PdFe NSs, and the 2H/fcc phase ratio in 2H/fcc Au@PdFe NSs can be tuned correspondingly by changing the Pd/Fe atomic ratio.
