Antipoaching standards in onshore hydrocarbon concessions drawn from a Central African case study

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 31, Issue 3, Page 696-706, June 2017., 2017
Abstract Unsustainable hunting outside protected areas is threatening tropical biodiversity worldwide and requires conservationists to engage increasingly in antipoaching activities. Following the example of ecocertified logging companies, we argue that other extractive industries managing large concessions should engage in antipoaching activities as ...

Analysis of Polymorphic Nanocrystals of TiO2 by X‐Ray Rietveld Refinement and High‐Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy: Acetaldehyde Decomposition

open access: yesJournal of Nanotechnology, Volume 2008, Issue 1, 2008., 2008
In this work, TiO2 nanocrystals were synthesized by the sol‐gel method. These materials were annealed at 200 and 500∘C; and characterized by the XRD‐Rietveld refinement; and by BET and TEM. As for the low‐temperature‐treated sample (200∘C), nanocrystals with small crystallite sizes (7 nm) and high abundance of anatase, coexisting with the brookite ...

Goodbye connections, hello Bagehot: democratization, lender of last resort independence and bank failures in Spain in 1931

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, Volume 79, Issue 1, Page 89-132, February 2026.
Abstract Did democratization reduce the likelihood of politically connected bank bailouts in the past? What role did private central banks play as independent lenders of last resort? To answer these questions, this article provides new detailed archival evidence on the causes of bank failures in Spain in July 1931.

Evaluation of the Influence of Antifoam Formulations on Asphaltene Aggregates Using AFM and SEM‐EDS

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 3, January 15, 2026.
ABSTRACT Asphaltenes, naturally occurring surfactants in crude oil play a pivotal role in stabilizing oily foams during primary oil processing. Accordingly, understanding how antifoam formulations influence asphaltene aggregation is essential. This study investigates the effect of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with varying molar masses on asphaltene ...

Performance of Carboxymethyl Starch and Chitosan as Green Scale Inhibitors for Calcite and Gypsum Precipitation

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 10, Issue 21, June 4, 2025.
Carboxymethylated chitosan (CMCh) and starch (CMSt) were evaluated as eco‐friendly scale inhibitors. Static tests demonstrated 50%–95% CaSO₄ inhibition, whereas dynamic tests against CaCO₃ showed MICs of 20–40 ppm (CMCh) and 10 ppm (CMSt). Both biopolymers exhibited calcium compatibility and altered crystal morphologies, confirming their potential as ...
