Carbonaceous adsorbents from solid industrial waste

open access: yesAdvanced materials to reduce the impact of toxic chemicals on the environment and health, 2023
Solid carbon residue, also known as carbon black, is the carbonaceous material left after rubber degradation during the pyrolysis process. It is a potential human carcinogen, and short-term exposure to high concentrations can cause discomfort in the upper respiratory tract, leading to mechanical irritation.

Characteristics of Solid Waste Agar Industries [PDF]

open access: yesSqualen Bulletin of Marine and Fisheries Postharvest and Biotechnology, 2018
Agar processed from red seaweed Gracilaria sp. in Indonesia can be found in the form of sheet and powder. The abundance of cellulose in agar solid waste can be used as an alternative source of carbon for microorganism growth. The purpose of this study was to determine the component of agar solid waste and to characterize the cellulose.

Hazardous Solid Waste from Metallurgical Industries [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1978
Types of land disposed residuals from selected metal smelting and refining industries are described, as are the origin and disposition of land disposed residuals from the primary copper industry as an example. Quantities of land-disposed or stored residuals, including slags, sludges, and dusts, are given per unit of metal production for most primary ...

Cellulose powder from olive industry solid waste

open access: yesBioResources, 2012
In the present work, a method for extracting cellulose from olive industry solid waste has been developed. The method involves subjecting solid olive waste to kraft pulping, followed by multistep bleaching processes. The totally free chlorine chemical bleaching sequence APEP was the most effective and gave an average cellulose yield of about 35%.
