Les idées de la Banque mondiale en matière de développement1

open access: yesOléagineux, Corps gras, Lipides, 2006
The World Bank claims that, in order to progress, the Developing Countries should rely on external borrowing and attract foreign investments. The main aim of thus running up debt is to buy basic equipment and consumer goods from the highly industrialised

Injuries in less industrialised countries [PDF]

open access: yesInjury Prevention, 1998
Editor,—I read with interest the report by Mohan published in December.1 I agree that “Priorities for injury control have to be based on intelligent assessments of official statistics...”. This is what prompted …

Why have so few countries industrialised? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
When countries develop, their economies become industrial, meaning that the goods and services that they produce are increasingly more diversified and complex. Despite progress, many countries in the world have not industrialised yet. This thesis shows that industrial and macroeconomic policies play a key role for industrialisation. A quantification of

Decoding the Integrated Stress Response of Pancreatic Cancer: Identifying a Serine‐dependent Tumor Subset Under Metabolic Relationships With CAFs.

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers identified a pancreatic cancer subset with low global protein synthesis but heightened translation of stress‐response genes like ATF4, rendering cells resistant to chemotherapy and apoptosis. These tumors depend on serine and cysteine from surrounding cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs), which shift to produce serine by curbing collagen ...

Population decline and infrastructure: The case of the German water supply system [PDF]

open access: yesVienna Yearbook of Population Research, 2007
The dynamic interaction between population and water is usually discussed in the context of development issues in Third World countries, but rarely analysed for northern, industrialised countries.

Tobacco Smoke Exposure From Prenatal To Adolescent Periods Drives IBD Pathogenesis: Dynamic DNA Methylation Signatures Across Lifespan Stages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study illustrates that maternal smoking during pregnancy (MSDP) is an independent risk factor for IBD in offspring, and DNA methylation serves as a key mechanistic pathway connecting early‐life smoking exposure with IBD risk in offspring. That highlights the urgent need for preventive interventions targeting prospective parents and minors to ...

Why all blood donations should be tested for hepatitis E virus (HEV)

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2019
Background Hepatitis E is a liver disease caused by a small RNA virus known as hepatitis E virus (HEV). Four major genotypes infect humans, of which genotype 1 and 2 (HEV-1, HEV-2) are endemic mainly in Asia and responsible for waterborne epidemics.

Review: Insight on Porous Carbon Positive Electrode for Sodium‐Ion Capacitors: Interplay Between Synthesis, Properties, and Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sodium ion capacitor (SIC) is currently constrained by the low discharge capacity of commercial activated carbon as positive electrode material. This review provides a holistic summary of research efforts on alternative porous carbon materials for SIC. Image created by the authors with www.biorender.com.

To the Deep End or Out of Their Depth?

open access: yesBMGN: Low Countries Historical Review, 2023
At the negotiations of the Third United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1973-1982), industrialised states with the capacity to exploit the deep seabed had a fundamentally different vision of a regime regulating deep-sea mining than most ...

Enhanced Photocatalytic Wastewater Purification and Bacterial Elimination via Copper Ion Irradiation‐Induced Modification of BiOCl

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a copper ion irradiation method to achieve the modification function of BiOCl. By using high‐energy ion beams to introduce impurity ions inside the material, the intrinsic electric field of BiOCl is optimized, promoting the separation of photogenerated carriers and enhancing the photocatalytic activity.
