We all know how astronauts float in space, near Earth, feeling no force pulling at them. In fact, we will see that gravity is no force, that is, it does not pull at us at all. Why do objects move around the Earth in curved orbits? The reason is that gravity bends space-time around any heavy mass.

In the first three chapters, we saw which effects steady, straight motion has on space, time, and mass. The part of the theory of relativity dealing with these phenomena is the theory of special relativity. Now we go one step further and allow the speed to change with time, that is, we allow for acceleration. The simplest case is rotation with constant

This chapter shows how the period that followed the end of the Convention was characterised by political inertia. It deals with the perception that under Roy Mason politics was pushed to one side in favour of a focus on the economy and security. This is extended to relations with the parties, including a congenial relationship with the Ulster Unionists
