Organizational Design, Inertia and the Dynamics of Competitive Response
Organization Science, 1993Organizational design research has largely ignored the effects of inertia on competitive response, despite the centrality of the concept in theories of organizational evolution. In evolutionary research, inertia is frequently invoked as an explanation for why organizations delay or completely fail to respond to changes in competitive pressure. Inertia

Investigating thermal inertia in lightweight buildings for demand response
2014 Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC), 2014This paper presents the use of buildings' thermal inertia as virtual thermal energy storage (TES) in smart home energy management systems (SHEMS). TES provides residential users with an additional degree of flexibility and helps them scheduling the energy usage in the off-peak periods to reduce the energy expenditure.

Transmission Line Damping Effects on Power System Inertia Response
2020 International SAUPEC/RobMech/PRASA Conference, 2020As the effects of climate change are becoming an ever-growing concern, countries around the world are rapidly increasing the participation of renewable generation to reduce CO 2 emissions. A large portion of this generation is interfaced to the power system through power electronic converters, and as their participation increases it begins to have ...

Optimization of Inertia Welding Process by Response Surface Methodology
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1972The inertia welding process was investigated using Response Surface Methodology. The optimum welding condition to yield maximum breaking strength at the weld was attained through a steepest ascent path. A second-order predicting equation for weld strength was established without significant lack of fit to the data.

Improvement of Transient Response in Microgrids Using Virtual Inertia
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2013Generation is shifting from a centralized power generating facility having large synchronous generators to distributed generation involving sources of smaller capacity. Most of these sources require inverters on the front end while being connected to the grid.

Epistemic Inertia and Epistemic Isolationism: A Response to Buchanan
Journal of Applied Philosophy, 2009abstract  Allen Buchanan argues that conventional applied ethics is impoverished and would be enriched by the addition of social moral epistemology. The aim here is to clarify this argument and to raise questions about whether such an addition is necessary about how such enrichment would work in practice. Two broad problems are identified.
