Inertia effects on characterization of dynamic response of brain tissue
Journal of Biomechanics, 2012Modeling and simulation of traumatic brain injury (TBI) resulted from collision or blast loading requires characterization of mechanical response over a wide range of loading rates under valid testing conditions. In this study, mechanical response of fresh bovine brain tissue was studied using the two modified Kolsky bar techniques.

Real-time Frequency Response Reserve based on System Inertia
2020 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition (T&D), 2020To ensure adequate and economic reserve for primary frequency response in the current and future power system, this paper proposes real-time frequency response reserve (FRR) requirement based on system inertia. This minimum FRR will help power system operators adjust the current frequency response requirement and accommodate more renewable generations ...

Response of seismic isolated structures with supplemental rotational inertia
Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2022AbstractMotivated by the effectiveness of inerters to control the displacements of flexible structures in association with their known property to eliminate the participation of higher modes, this paper revisits the seismic response analysis of the classical two‐degree‐of‐freedom isolated structure with supplemental rotational inertia in its isolation ...

Effect of Input Shaping on Response of Inertia Plants
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011A poorly designed control system can lead to excessive residual vibration and long setting time. This paper investigates the effect of input shaping on control efficiency. To perform this investigation, we design a PD controller combined with input shaping for an inertia plant. We then subject it to four standard types of inputs.

Organizational Design, Inertia and the Dynamics of Competitive Response
Organization Science, 1993Organizational design research has largely ignored the effects of inertia on competitive response, despite the centrality of the concept in theories of organizational evolution. In evolutionary research, inertia is frequently invoked as an explanation for why organizations delay or completely fail to respond to changes in competitive pressure. Inertia

Investigating thermal inertia in lightweight buildings for demand response
2014 Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC), 2014This paper presents the use of buildings' thermal inertia as virtual thermal energy storage (TES) in smart home energy management systems (SHEMS). TES provides residential users with an additional degree of flexibility and helps them scheduling the energy usage in the off-peak periods to reduce the energy expenditure.

Optimization of Inertia Welding Process by Response Surface Methodology
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1972The inertia welding process was investigated using Response Surface Methodology. The optimum welding condition to yield maximum breaking strength at the weld was attained through a steepest ascent path. A second-order predicting equation for weld strength was established without significant lack of fit to the data.

Unit Commitment With Inertia-Dependent and Multispeed Allocation of Frequency Response Services
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2019Future changes in the generation mix may reduce the overall amount of system inertia. It becomes crucial to provide response services more quickly to secure postfault transient frequency dynamics.

Inertia Estimation Based on Observed Electromechanical Oscillation Response for Power Systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2019The inertia constant is a key parameter of synchronous grids that are robust to disturbances. This paper presents an inertia estimation method for a multi-area interconnected electric power system.
