Fluid and kinetic simulation of inertial confinement fusion plasmas

Computer Physics Communications, 2005
The main features of codes for inertial confinement fusion studies are outlined, and a few recent simulation results are presented. The two-dimensional Lagrangian fluid code DUED is used to study target evolution, including beam-driven compression, hydrodynamic stability, hot spot formation, ignition and burn. An electro-magnetic particle-in-cell (PIC)

Prospects of inertial confinement fusion

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1997
The present status of inertial confinement fusion (ICF) is briefly reviewed, emphasizing the National Ignition Facility (NIF) project in the US and the Megajoule project in France. Critical aspects of target performance such as symmetry and stability of capsule implosions and interaction physics in hohlraum targets are discussed.

Inertial Confinement Fusion with Lasers or Particle Beams

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1986
Controlled fusion of light nuclei for energy production occurs at hight temperatures, kT≳10keV. In order to obtain efficient burn the fuel has to be confined for a minimum time τ which is inversely proportional to the fuel density (Nuckolls, 1982). At low particle densities the fuel can be confined and kept in a steady state by magnetic fields.

The inertial electrostatic confinement approach to fusion power

Proceedings of 16th International Symposium on Fusion Engineering, 1997
Inertial electrostatic confinement (IEC) of a non-Maxwellian beam-dominated plasma for fusion, originally proposed in the 1950s, has received little attention until recently. Experiments have shown that small IEC devices operating in a beam-background plasma mode are well-suited for a commercial portable low-level neutron source for activation analysis

Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF)

2017
Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF), in recent years has raised a lot of interest beyond just the national laboratories in United State and abroad. The ICF aim is toward producing clean energy, using high-energy laser beam or for that matter a particle beam (i.e., the particle beam may consist of heavy or light ion beam) to drive a pellet of two isotopes

Comments on the History and Prospects for Inertial Confinement Fusion

1992
It is a special favour to be here at a celebration for Edward Teller who was the very first in history to demonstrate a man-made exothermic nuclear fusion reaction. This represented the process of inertial confinement fusion (ICF) on a large scale. Now it is a most important aim for mankind to develop this process into a smaller controllable scale for ...
