Feasibility of quantifying the physical exposure of materials handlers in the workplace with magnetic and inertial measurement units

Ergonomics, 2020
Handling tasks can expose workers to risk factors. The objective was to describe the feasibility of using magnetic and inertial measurement units (MIMUs) to quantify the physical exposure of materials handlers in the workplace.

Analysis and modelling of MEMS inertial measurement unit

2012 International Conference on Localization and GNSS, 2012
Thanks to advances in the development of Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS), it has been possible to fabricate small dimension and cheap accelerometers and gyros, which are being used in many applications where the GPS/INS integration is carried out, as for example to identify track defects, navigation, geo-referencing, agriculture, etc.

An integrated MEMS inertial measurement unit

2002 IEEE Position Location and Navigation Symposium (IEEE Cat. No.02CH37284), 2003
With MEMS technologies, instrument subcomponents are integrated in the design to form individual gyroscopes and accelerometers on a single chip. This replaces the assembly of individual subcomponents which forms conventional instruments. Similarly, MEMS instrument components can be integrated to form complete inertial measurement units (IMUs ...

Characterization of Inertial Measurement Units under Environmental Stress Screening

International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference, 2020
Nowadays, the Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) are widely employed in both consumer and industrial applications. One of the most important fields adopting MEMS device is the inertial measurement sector where this kind of technology is employed to ...

Integrated Inertial Measurement Unit

2019
With the more advanced pitch and roll gyroscope designs and microfabrication platform, achieving consistent high performance in all three axes using robust high-frequency resonant MEMS gyroscopes becomes possible. This chapter presents the first demonstration of a high-performance timing and inertial measurement unit (TIMU) with robust 3-axis resonant ...

Measuring Arm Motions Using the Inertial Measurement Unit

2020 IEEE 2nd Global Conference on Life Sciences and Technologies (LifeTech), 2020
This paper describes how to detect arm motions using Inertial measurement unit (IMU). The authors propose a method to attach the IMU to an upper arm and a lower arm as so to obtain the arm’s attitude information from the sensor’s data and thereby to detect the arm’s motions. Our experiment has shown that the arm’s flexion can be detected.

Driving a musculoskeletal model with inertial and magnetic measurement units

Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2013
We developed and evaluated a new kinematic driver for musculoskeletal models using ambulatory inertial and magnetic measurement units (IMMUs). The new driver uses the orientation estimates based on sensor fusion of each individual IMMU and benefits from two important properties of musculoskeletal models.

Low cost inertial measuring unit

IEEE PLANS 92 Position Location and Navigation Symposium Record, 2003
A concept being explored is the use of an inexpensive IMU (inertial measuring unit) with the GPS (Global Positioning System). An inexpensive IMU can meet many of the same functional requirements as the high-accuracy system, with the exception of long-term position. For example, some applications for instrumenting a reference frame are antenna stability,

Research on measurement and modeling of micro-inertial-measurement unit

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Rate calibration and six position calibration tests are discussed about a kind of micro inertial measurement unit (MIMU). A simple mathematical model of micro gyroscope and accelerometer is designed, some model parameters such as bias, scale factor, cross-axis coupling factors etc are confirmed.
