Seismic response control using electromagnetic inertial mass dampers

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2013
SUMMARYThis paper presents a new type of electromagnetic damper with rotating inertial mass that has been developed to control the vibrations of structures subjected to earthquakes. The electromagnetic inertial mass damper (EIMD) consists of a ball screw that converts axial oscillation of the rod end into rotational motion of the internal flywheel and ...

Near-Inertial Ocean Current Response to Hurricane Frederic

Journal of Physical Oceanography, 1987
Abstract Hurricane Frederic passed with 80 to 130 km of the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office current meter arrays in water depths ranging from 100 to 470 m near the DeSoto Canyon region, and within 150 km of an Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) mooring in 1050 m of water.

Integrated inertial fusion energy chamber dynamics and response

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2014
Abstract This paper presents results of three-dimensional hydrodynamics simulations of the flow inside a model inertial fusion energy (IFE) fusion chamber. Turbulence modeling employing the large-eddy simulation approach is used to estimate the gas dynamics, state, and mixing after a sufficiently large number of target ignitions.

Inertial oscillations as deep ocean response to hurricanes

Journal of Oceanography, 2008
We discuss the deep ocean response to passing hurricanes (aka typhoons), which are considered as generators of near-inertial, internal waves. The analysis of data collected in the northwestern parts of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans in the hurricane season permit us to assess the deep ocean response to such a strong atmospheric forcing. A large number

Power System Enterprise Control With Inertial Response Procurement

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2018
As the power system evolves to better address environmental and reliability concerns, its overall dynamics changes and consequently challenges the adequacy of established operating procedures. This evolution brings a significant increase in the number of integrated renewable energy sources (RES) and HVDC connections.

RESPONSE TIME IN INERTIAL MEASUREMENT UNIT CONTROL ALGORITHMS

Measuring Equipment and Metrology
The Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) [1] is a cornerstone technology in various fields, ranging from aerospace to consumer electronics, where accurate motion tracking is paramount. Central to the effectiveness of an IMU is the quality of data processing, particularly in the context of filtering techniques.

Near-Inertial Response of a Salinity-Stratified Ocean

Journal of Physical Oceanography
Abstract We study the near-inertial response of the salinity-stratified north Bay of Bengal to monsoonal wind forcing using 6 years of hourly observations from four moorings. The mean annual energy input from surface winds to near-inertial mixed layer currents is 10–20 kJ m−2, occurring mainly in distinct synoptic “events” from April–September. A total
