Chronic lung disease in premature infants
Critical Care Medicine, 1988A retrospective case-control study involving 99 premature infants requiring vigorous respiratory support was conducted to investigate the relative contribution of various etiologic factors in the development of chronic lung disease (CLD). Nineteen of the 99 developed CLD. Background and management factors up to the development of CLD, with attention to

Strategy for the prevention and treatment of chronic lung disease of the premature infant
Pediatric Pulmonology, 1999Based on the analyses of approximately 1,000 infants with CLD, this condition was classified into 7 types according to the preceding illnesses and the chest X-ray appearance. The profile of inflammatory enzymes, cytokines and chemical mediators supported the relevance of the classification.

Management of infants with chronic lung disease of prematurity in the United Kingdom
Early Human Development, 2005The management of chronic lung disease of prematurity (CLD) is challenging for the neonatologist. There are few well-powered randomised controlled trials to inform practice and longer-term outcomes of some interventions have only recently been identified (for example the possible association between the use of corticosteroids and neurodevelopmental ...

EFFECT OF OBSTETRIC DIFFICULTIES AND MATERNAL DISEASE ON PREMATURE INFANT MORTALITY
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1949Several studies made by others1have stated the conclusion that maternal factors were not important in relation to the neonatal survival of the premature infant. The usual contention is that the birth weight of the premature infant largely determines its ability to initiate a satisfactory extrauterine existence. Obviously, birth weight as an evidence of

Mechanism of gastroesophageal reflux in premature infants with chronic lung disease
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1999The aim of this study was to characterize the motor events responsible for gastroesophageal reflux (GER) and esophageal acid clearance in a cohort of preterm infants with chronic lung disease (CLD).Esophageal motility was recorded for 2 to 3 hours postprandially in 14 preterm infants with mild-moderate or moderate-severe CLD at 33 to 39 weeks ...
