Association between food environments and fetal growth in pregnant Brazilian women

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2023
Introduction Birth weight is described as one of the main determinants of newborns’ chances of survival. Among the associated causes, or risk factors, the mother’s nutritional status strongly influences fetal growth and birth weight outcomes of the ...

The associations of parity and maternal age with small-for-gestational-age, preterm, and neonatal and infant mortality: a meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2013
BackgroundPrevious studies have reported on adverse neonatal outcomes associated with parity and maternal age. Many of these studies have relied on cross-sectional data, from which drawing causal inference is complex.

Glucagon for hypoglycaemia in infants small for gestational age. [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 1988
Twenty five infants who were small for gestational age received glucagon (0.5 mg/day by continuous infusion) in the treatment of hypoglycaemia. Twenty responded within three hours with a rise in blood glucose concentration to above 4 mmol/l. Five subjects subsequently required hydrocortisone to maintain glucose concentrations.

Diagnostic accuracy of placental growth factor and ultrasound parameters to predict the small‐for‐gestational‐age infant in women presenting with reduced symphysis–fundus height

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2015
To assess the diagnostic accuracy of placental growth factor (PlGF) and ultrasound parameters to predict delivery of a small‐for‐gestational‐age (SGA) infant in women presenting with reduced symphysis–fundus height (SFH).

Quantifying myelin in brain tissue using color spatial light interference microscopy (cSLIM) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Deficient myelination of the brain is associated with neurodevelopmental delays, particularly in high-risk infants, such as those born small in relation to their gestational age (SGA). New methods are needed to further study this condition. Here, we employ Color Spatial Light Interference Microscopy (cSLIM), which uses a brightfield objective and RGB ...

Initial Metabolic Profiles Are Associated with 7-Day Survival among Infants Born at 22-25 Weeks of Gestation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the association between early metabolic profiles combined with infant characteristics and survival past 7 days of age in infants born at 22-25 weeks of gestation. STUDY DESIGN:This nested case-control consisted of 465 singleton live

The associations of birth intervals with small-for-gestational-age, preterm, and neonatal and infant mortality: a meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2013
BackgroundShort and long birth intervals have previously been linked to adverse neonatal outcomes. However, much of the existing literature uses cross-sectional studies, from which deriving causal inference is complex.

Temporal Events Detector for Pregnancy Care (TED-PC): A Rule-based Algorithm to Infer Gestational Age and Delivery Date from Electronic Health Records of Pregnant Women with and without COVID-19 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Objective: To develop a rule-based algorithm that detects temporal information of clinical events during pregnancy for women with COVID-19 by inferring gestational weeks and delivery dates from Electronic Health Records (EHR) from the National COVID Cohort Collaborate (N3C).

Total energy expenditure in small for gestational age infants. [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood - Fetal and Neonatal Edition, 1996
To measure total energy expenditure and body composition in small for gestational age (SGA) infants in order to investigate proposed hypermetabolism in such babies.A cross sectional study of 52 SGA infants measured at 5 weeks of age was made, using existing data from appropriate for gestational age (AGA) infants as controls.
