Fluid resuscitation in infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis

Acta Paediatrica, 2001
The purpose of this analysis was to investigate biochemical disturbances at presentation and initial fluid resuscitation before surgery in infantile pyloric stenosis. The charts of 139 consecutive infants (113 boys and 26 girls) between 7d and 20 wk of age with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis were reviewed.

The Genetics of Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis

American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1993
To determine whether the existing family data for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS) are sufficient for the purposes of establishing the mode of inheritance of this condition.Reanalysis of the familial aggregation patterns exhibited by IHPS, using data from several published family studies.Due to several limitations of the available family ...

Gastrin, somatostatin and infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis

Acta Paediatrica, 2001
Despite multiple and often contradictory research, no firm conclusions regarding the role of hypergastrinaemia in infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS) have been established. Evaluation of somatostatin, the main physiological antagonist of gastrin, has not been assessed in previous studies. Long‐term evaluation following pyloromyotomy suggests

Factors Associated With Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1988
We examined perinatal factors in relation to the rise in incidence of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis among children in Olmsted County, Minnesota, during the period from 1950 through 1984. Primogeniture was associated with male infants but not female infants; some factor related to primogeniture, such as breast-feeding, may be etiologically ...

Tetrahydrobiopterin in the Treatment of Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis

Biochemical and Molecular Medicine, 1997
Evidence is emerging that reduced nitric oxide production may be involved in the pathogenesis of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) requires tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) for activity. Four infants with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis were treated with oral BH4 (10 mg/kg/day) for 2.5 days.

Peristaltic Waves in Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis

The Journal of Pediatrics, 2014
Figure 2. The transverse plane of abdominal ultrasonography showed characteristic target lesion with enlarged pylorus (DistanceA: pylorus diameter 15.2mm) and thickened pylorus muscle (Distance B: wall thickness 6.3 mm). The longitudinal view showed indentation of the pylorus into the fluid-filled antrum (cervix sign) with elongated pylorus canal ...

Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis and Hydronephrosis: Is there an Association?

Journal of Urology, 1993
Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis is a common condition requiring surgical intervention during the first few weeks of life. The incidence of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis ranges from 0.13 to 0.4% of live births in the United States, Britain and Scandinavia. Associated anomalies have been described in 6 to 33% of the cases in the central

Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in a regional centre

Irish Journal of Medical Science, 2000
It has been suggested that only specialist paediatric surgeons should manage infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS).The aim of this retrospective study was to ascertain whether the majority of these infants might be managed in a well-equipped regional centre.Using the Hospital Inpatient Enquiry database, all cases of IHPS within a single ...

Complications of pyloromyotomy for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis

The American Journal of Surgery, 1997
Few references exist regarding contemporary complications of pyloromyotomy (PM) for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS). Therefore, we reviewed the frequency and outcome of patients with IHPS who developed complications from PM.A 25-year retrospective review was performed in two populations.
