Neutrophils incite and macrophages avert electrical storm after myocardial infarction
Sudden cardiac death, arising from abnormal electrical conduction, occurs frequently in patients with coronary heart disease. Myocardial ischemia simultaneously induces arrhythmia and massive myocardial leukocyte changes.

In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Long-term mortality after first Acute Myocardial Infarction in the light of changing therapeutic guidelines and diagnostic criteria between 1995 and 2003 [PDF]
Background: The introduction of new invasive therapies for acute myocardial infarction and new medication schemes for secondary prevention is thought to increase life expectancy in 28-day survivors of a first myocardial infarction.

Association between clinical presentations before myocardial infarction and coronary mortality: a prospective population-based study using linked electronic records. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Ischaemia in different arterial territories before acute myocardial infarction (AMI) may influence post-AMI outcomes. No studies have evaluated prospectively collected information on ischaemia and its effect on short- and long-term coronary ...

The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Out of the Box: Rare Mimicker of Acute Abdomen-Acute Epiploic Appendagitis [PDF]
Epiploic appendages are peritoneal protrusions of sub-serosal adipose tissue that usually arise from the colon. Inflammation or ischaemic process of epiploic appendages is termed as epiploic appendagitis, a rare subtype of intra-peritoneal focal fat ...

ABSTRACT Introduction Spinal cord infarction (SCI) is a rare but devastating myelopathy, characterized by a high disability rate and an unfavorable prognosis. It has often been underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed as idiopathic transverse myelitis (ITM). This study aimed to describe the clinical features, radiological biomarkers, treatments, and functional ...

Splenic Infarct Masquerading as Myocardial Infarction
Splenic infarction is an uncommon cause of abdominal pain. Diabetes increases the risk of blood vessel occlusion and consequent tissue infarction due to blood vessel abnormalities such as atherosclerosis or thrombosis. Systemic thromboembolism secondary to myocardial infarction is associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality.

Impact of Asymptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage on Outcome After Endovascular Stroke Treatment
ABSTRACT Background Endovascular treatment (EVT) achieves high rates of recanalization in acute large‐vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke, but functional recovery remains heterogeneous. While symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) has been well studied, the prognostic impact of asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (aICH) after EVT is less certain ...
