Plant functional diversity does not dilute virus infection, but community virus prevalence positively correlates with net C3 grass production

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study examines if plant functional diversity dilutes plant virus prevalence in grass hosts and evaluates how virus prevalence influences net community and host production. Functional diversity did not mitigate or amplify virus prevalence. While we found that species relationships between virus prevalence and production varied, overall, virus ...

Infecciones víricas

open access: yesMedicine - Programa de Formación Médica Continuada Acreditado, 2014
Viruses cause disease after they break through the natural protective barriers of the body, evade immune control, and either kill cells of an important tissue or trigger a destructive immune and inflammatory response. The outcome of a viral infection is determined by the nature of the virushost interaction and the host's response to the infection ...

Genetically determined body mass index is associated with diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma in polygenic and Mendelian randomization analyses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 1, Page 45-59, 1 January 2026.
What's new? Obesity has been linked to the risk of non‐Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), but the evidence remains inconclusive. Here, the authors investigate the possibility of shared genetic risk factors between obesity and four common NHL types. Drawing on data from 8 genome‐wide association studies, they found that a higher genetically determined BMI was ...

Successional and native forests predict the occurrence and infection status of Chagas disease vectors in Panama

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
Findings here show that successional forest predicts greater kissing bug infestation risk in palm trees, whereas native forest predicts lower kissing bug occurrence but greater infection with T. cruzi. These insights can guide land use planning towards vegetation management practices that help minimize T. cruzi transmission risks for rural communities.
