Infectious Diseases in Critical Care Medicine [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Journal Armed Forces India, 2003
Few books on the subject of Critical Care Medicine are as interestingly written as this one. The book deals with practical microbiological problems that concern the Intensive Care Units; the entire narration is lucid with easy to comprehend tables, flow diagrams, labelled diagrams and photographs.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

“It’s easier to take a pill than fix a problem:” qualitative analysis of barriers and facilitators to antimicrobial stewardship program implementation in carceral settings

open access: yesBMC Global and Public Health
Background Widespread antibiotic prescribing contributes to globally emerging antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Despite stewardship recommendations by the Infectious Diseases Society of America, there is a lack of literature identifying barriers and ...

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Beyond digital twins: the role of foundation models in enhancing the interpretability of multiomics modalities in precision medicine

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review highlights how foundation models enhance predictive healthcare by integrating advanced digital twin modeling with multiomics and biomedical data. This approach supports disease management, risk assessment, and personalized medicine, with the goal of optimizing health outcomes through adaptive, interpretable digital simulations, accessible ...

More medicines for neglected and emerging infectious diseases

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2007
Countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) account for about 80% of gross expenditure in research and development globally,1 but their collective health research output has not led to new medicines for many of the infectious diseases that afflict developing countries; human african trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis ...
