Causal pattern inference from neural spike train data

open access: yes, 2010
Electrophysiological recordings are a valuable tool for neuroscience in order to monitor the activity of multiple or even single neurons. Significant insights into the nervous system have been gained by analyses of resulting data; in particular, many ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Bayesian Full‐Waveform Monitoring of CO2 Storage With Fluid‐Flow Priors via Generative Modeling

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation
Quantitative monitoring of subsurface changes is essential for ensuring the safety of geological CO2 sequestration. Full‐waveform monitoring (FWM) can resolve these changes at high spatial resolution, but conventional deterministic inversion lacks ...

Spatial transcriptomics uncovers immune-cell plasticity and dedifferentiation signatures in aggressive lung adenocarcinoma subtypes

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Intrinsic genetic alterations and dynamic transcriptional changes contribute to the heterogeneity of solid tumors. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is characterized by its significant histological, cellular and molecular heterogeneity.

Spatial Structures and Spatial Spillovers: A GME Approach [PDF]

open access: yes
Spatial econometrics is a subdiscipline that have gained a huge popularity in the last twenty years, not only in theoretical econometrics but in empirical studies as well. Basically, spatial econometric methods measure spatial interaction and incorporate

Spatial statistical inference from a decision-theoretic viewpoint with application to non-Gaussian environmental data

open access: yes
In this thesis, I address some challenges related to spatial-statistical inference on noisy, incomplete, non-Gaussian, and potentially large environmental spatial datasets.

Spatial scale analysis of landscape processes for digital soil mapping in Ireland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Soil is one of the most precious resources on Earth because of its role in storing and recycling water and nutrients essential for life, providing a variety of ecosystem services.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Non-Coding Regulatory Variants in Autoimmune Disease: Biological Mechanisms, Immune Context, and Integrative Multi-Omics Interpretation

open access: yesBiology
Autoimmune diseases arise from complex interactions between genetic susceptibility, immune regulation, and tissue-specific inflammatory processes, yet most risk variants identified by genome-wide association studies occur in non-coding regions with ...

Spatial and temporal epidemiology of sporadic human cases of Escherichia coli O157 in Scotland, 1996-1999

open access: yes, 2005
In Scotland, between 1995 and 2000 there were between 4 and 10 cases of illness per 100000 population per year identified as being caused by Escherichia coli O157, whereas in England and Wales there were between 1 and 2 cases per 100000 population per ...
