Reversible pure word deafness due to inferior colliculi compression by a pineal germinoma in a young adult

Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2015
We report a clinical case of a 19-year-old male patient who developed pure word deafness due to the local compressive effect of a pineal germinoma on the inferior colliculi of the quadrigeminal plate. After percutaneous radiation therapy the size of the tumor decreased significantly, while audiometry demonstrated a complete regression of the auditory ...

Laminar organization of frequency‐defined local axons within and between the inferior colliculi of the guinea pig

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1995
AbstractWe present a comprehensive description of the local (intrinsic and commissural) connections in the central nucleus of the inferior colliculi (CNICs) in guinea pig. Focal injections of the anterograde tracer biocytin were made into physiologically identified loci of the CNIC and the spatial organisation of the labeled fibres was revealed with ...

Unit responses of the inferior colliculi to changes in the intensity of an amplitude-modulated signal

Neurophysiology, 1974
Unit responses of the inferior colliculi of anesthetized rats to amplitude-modulated sounds during a change in the carrier intensity were investigated. The following unit response characteristics were assessed: the number of spikes in the response, the range of reproduction of the modulation frequency, the response duration, and the pattern of the ...

Sound-evoked electrocortical desynchronization is inhibited by Nω-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester microinfused into the inferior colliculi in rats

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1996
In previous experiments we have shown that systemic or intracerebroventricular administration of N omega-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), an inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthase, is able to significantly reduce sound-evoked electrocortical (ECoG) desynchronization in rats.

[Behavior of cats after unilateral section of the brachii of the inferior colliculi].

Zhurnal vysshei nervnoi deiatelnosti imeni I P Pavlova, 1978
In experiments on 13 cats a unilateral section of the brachii of inferior colliculi produced a stable interhemispheric asymmetry not only in the auditory system, but in other (vestibular, visual, somatic, olfactory) analysers as well, which led to a disturbance of adequate space perception.

[Role of the inferior colliculi in the formation of conditioned reflexes to amplitude-modulated stimuli in rats].

Zhurnal vysshei nervnoi deiatelnosti imeni I P Pavlova, 1981
After a bilateral ablation of the rat auditory cortex, differentiation of a tonal signal from an amplitude-modulated stimulus with 50 c/s modulation frequency is preserved, while ablation of the posterior colliculi completely abolishes differentiation of these signals, without subsequent restoration in six months after the operation.
