Target Flow-Pressure Operating Range for Designing a Failing Fontan Cavopulmonary Support Device [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Fontan operation as the current standard of care for the palliation of single ventricle defects results in significant late complications. Using a mechanical circulatory device for the right circulation to serve the function of the missing subpulmonary ventricle could potentially stabilize the failing Fontan circulation.

Perinatal inferior vena cava thrombosis and absence of the infrarenal inferior vena cava [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2001
We report a case of infrarenal absence of the inferior vena cava (IVC) presenting as a major iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis in an adolescent. This is the first report of infrarenal IVC absence in which IVC thrombosis has been demonstrated in the perinatal period.

Resection of retroperitoneal sarcoma en‐bloc with inferior vena cava: 20 year outcomes of a single institution

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, 2018
Margin negative resection offers the best chance of long‐term survival in retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS). En‐bloc resection of adjacent structures, including the inferior vena cava (IVC), is often required to achieve negative margins.

Inferior vena cava filters [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2015
Under fluoroscopic guidance, IVC filters are placed percutaneously via the jugular or femoral vein. Current guidelines recommend use in patients with known venous thromboembolism who have an absolute contraindication to anticoagulant therapy (e.g., patients with hemorrhagic stroke or ...

Inferior Vena Cava Measurement with Ultrasound: What Is the Best View and Best Mode?

open access: yesWestern Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2017
Introduction Intravascular volume status is an important clinical consideration in the management of the critically ill. Point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) has gained popularity as a non-invasive means of intravascular volume assessment via ...

Risks and Benefits of Using a Commercially Available Ventricular Assist Device for Failing Fontan Cavopulmonary Support: A Modeling Investigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Fontan patients often develop circulatory failure and are in desperate need of a therapeutic solution. A blood pump surgically placed in the cavopulmonary pathway can substitute the function of the absent sub-pulmonary ventricle by generating a mild pressure boost.

Complications of inferior vena cava filters.

open access: yesCardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, 2016
Inferior vena cava (IVC) filter placement is a relatively low risk alternative for prophylaxis against pulmonary embolism in patients with pelvic or lower extremity deep venous thrombosis who are not suitable for anticoagulation.

KLF1 Promotes Cardiomyocyte Proliferation and Heart Regeneration Through Regulation of Wnt/β‐Catenin Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In KLF1‐on (neonatal and Klf1 overexpression hearts) models, KLF1 regulates Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway and the expression of cell proliferation‐related genes via transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms, which induces cardiomyocyte proliferation and cardiac regeneration in mice after myocardial infarction.

Renal cell carcinoma with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus initially misdiagnosed as bland thrombus due to hypercoagulable state

open access: yesSAGE Open Medical Case Reports, 2022
Renal cell carcinoma with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus can be misdiagnosed as an inferior vena cava thrombosis if not evaluated carefully with imaging.

Safety and Efficacy of Inferior Vena Cava Reconstruction During Hepatic Resection

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Surgery, 2018
Background and Aims: Patients with liver tumors involving the inferior vena cava have a poor outcome without surgery. Liver resection en bloc with inferior vena cava resection and reconstruction is now performed in many centers. The purpose of this study
