Clinical Anatomy of the Left and Right Atrial Appendages in Humans: Comparative and Developmental Perspective

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human atrial chambers derive from distinct embryonic anlagens, the original embryonic atria gradually transforming into the so‐called auricles, or atrial appendages. This study quantifies macroscopic variations in pectinate muscle architecture in human atrial appendages and evaluates their visualization using clinical imaging modalities.

Anatomy of the Soft Palate and Its Role in Upper Airway Function: A Narrative Review

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The soft palate is a complex anatomical structure, located at the posterior aspect of the oral and nasal cavities, able to dynamically create valve closure of the nasal and the oral cavities. Its precise movement is critical for speech, swallowing, and respiration. Despite its functional importance, detailed characterization of its constituent

Learning Theory Foundations in Competency‐Based Anatomy Education

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Competency‐based medical education (CBME) has reshaped undergraduate medical training by emphasizing demonstrable performance, developmental progression, and entrustment decisions rather than time‐based advancement. Within this reform, anatomical sciences are increasingly conceptualized as longitudinal clinical competencies rather than ...

Observations on Two Previously Unreported Anatomical Factors Relating to the Esophagogastric Junction

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The esophagogastric junction (EGJ) is the anatomical zone where the esophagus ends and the stomach begins. Its competence in preventing gastro‐esophageal reflux has been shown to depend on a number of factors which have been extensively investigated and widely accepted.
