Bayesian Optimisation for the Experimental Sciences: A Practical Guide to Data‐Efficient Optimisation of Laboratory Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study provides an introduction to Bayesian optimisation targeted for experimentalists. It explains core concepts, surrogate modelling, and acquisition strategies, and addresses common real‐world challenges such as noise, constraints, mixed variables, scalability, and automation.

Re‐evaluation of a soft crested Edmontosaurin, with implications for hadrosaurid life appearance and diversity

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Hadrosaurid dinosaurs are generally regarded as “crested” or “non‐crested” depending on the presence or absence of a bony cranial crest. At least one supposedly “non‐crested” hadrosaur is known to have possessed a soft tissue cranial crest (or comb), based on an exceptionally preserved “mummified” specimen. Here we redescribe this specimen and

Dynamic nonlinear analyses for the 4-storey infilled R/C frame: study of a retrofitting solution [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A research project on assessment and retrofitting of R/C frame structures is currently being developed under the research programme of the ICONS TMR-research network.

2012 Emilia earthquake, Italy:reinforced concrete buildings response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Data of the Italian National Institute of Statistics are collected aimed at characterizing Reinforced Concrete (RC) building stock of the area struck by the 2012 Emilia earthquake (number of storeys, age of construction, structural typology).

A review of the historic and present ecological role of aquatic and shoreline wood, from forest to deep sea

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ecology of forests, their losses, and terrestrial wood decomposition dynamics have been intensively studied and reviewed. In the aquatic realm, reviews have concentrated on large wood (LW) in rivers and the transition from freshwater to marine environments in the Pacific Northwest of North America. However, a comprehensive global synthesis

Modeling of masonry infilled RC frames with different aspect ratios using plastic hinge and equivalent strut

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Applied Science
The existence of diverse modeling approaches for masonry-infilled frames causes uncertainty among practicing engineers when seeking a definitive model for their design practice.

Seismic Retrofitting of RC Frames with RC Infilling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The effectiveness of seismic retrofitting of multi-storey multi-bay RC-frame buildings, by converting selected bays into new walls through infilling with RC, was studied experimentally at the ELSA facility at JRC, Ispra, and the results are reported here.

Analytical versus observational fragilities::the case of Pettino (L’Aquila) damage data database [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A damage data database of 131 reinforced concrete (RC) buildings, collected after 2009 L’Aquila (Italy) earthquake, is employed for the evaluation of observational fragility curves.

Study on the composite fracture characteristics of filling and reinforcing cracked rock mass after high temperature damage

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Cement infill shares compressive and shear stresses during loading, while interfacial friction hinders crack propagation and reduces stress concentration, improving the rock's load‐bearing capacity. Failure modes vary with crack inclination. Unfilled specimens show four modes.

Seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete frame with infill panels

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Infill panels are usually used in structures; therefore, it is very important to study their behaviour and their influence on bare frames. Several models had been proposed to understand the effect of the infill panels on structure.
