Heart-infiltrating and Peripheral T Cells in the Pathogenesis of Human Chagas' Disease Cardiomyopathy

open access: yesAutoimmunity, 2001
Heart tissue destruction in chronic Chagas' disease cardiomyopathy (CCC), occurring in 30% of individuals chronically infected by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, may be caused by autoimmune recognition of patients' heart tissue by a T cell rich inflammatory infiltrate.

Raman Microscopy at the Organic–Inorganic Interfaces in Human Calcified Aortic Valves Shows the Co‐Existence of Whitlockite Crystals and Carbonated Hydroxyapatite‐Mineralized Collagen Fibrils

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study advances our understanding of aortic valve stenosis by capturing spatially resolved chemical and structural changes at the nanoscale. The findings highlight the potential of combined Raman and electron microscopy for understanding calcification mechanisms across diverse tissue types.

Cardiac scintigraphy-centered diagnostic process in transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2020
Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is a progressive infiltrative cardiomyopathy. Amyloid fibrils in the form of misfolded endogenous proteins accumulate in the heart, as well as the kidneys, liver, and gastrointestinal tract.

Fatty images of the heart: spectrum of normal and pathological findings at computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Ectopic cardiac fatty images are not rarely detected incidentally at computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance, either in exams focused on the heart as in general thoracic imaging evaluations.

The potential value of cuprotosis in myocardial immune infiltration that occurs in pediatric congenital heart disease in response to surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, 2023
AbstractBackgroundCardiopulmonary bypass may cause malfunction in the myocardium. Cuproptosis is a novel cell death aggregating mitochondrial proteins. However, the research on cardiopulmonary bypass‐caused heart tissue injury in immune infiltration and cuproptosis is limited.MethodImmune infiltration, enrichment analysis, protein−protein interaction ...

Cardiac‐Derived ECM Microspheres for Enhanced hiPSC‐CMs Maturation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cardiac extracellular matrix microspheres derived from decellularized porcine heart provide a biomimetic 3D microenvironment for human induced pluripotent stem cell–derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC‐CMs). This platform supports short‐ and long‐term culture, enhances structural organization, and promotes electrophysiological and functional maturation of ...

Case report: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma presenting as congestive heart failure in a cat

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Cardiac lymphoma is uncommon in cats and is rarely considered as a differential diagnosis for congestive heart failure. A 10-year-old neutered male domestic short-haired cat with clinical histories of feline immunodeficiency virus, diabetes mellitus, and

New Insights about Pulmonary Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma: Review of the Literature and Two Case Reports [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (PEH) is a rare neoplasm of vascular origin. There are three different major imaging patterns identified in thoracic manifestation of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma: (1) multiple pulmonary nodules; (2 ...
