Calculating Non-adiabatic Pressure Perturbations during Multi-field Inflation

open access: yes, 2012
Isocurvature perturbations naturally occur in models of inflation consisting of more than one scalar field. In this paper we calculate the spectrum of isocurvature perturbations generated at the end of inflation for three different inflationary models ...

Indoor Measurement of Contact Stress Distributions for a Slick Tyre at Low Speed

open access: yesSensors
The paper presents results of experimental research on tyre–road contact stress distributions, measured indoors for a motorsport slick tyre. The triaxial contact stress distributions have been measured using the complex transducer containing a ...

Non-gaussianity from the second-order cosmological perturbation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Several conserved and/or gauge invariant quantities described as the second-order curvature perturbation have been given in the literature. We revisit various scenarios for the generation of second-order non-gaussianity in the primordial curvature ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Multibody Dynamic Analysis of an E-Scooter Considering Asymmetric Tire Stiffness, Speed, and Surface Roughness

open access: yesMachines
E-scooters have become a widely adopted form of urban mobility, increasing the need to understand how vibration exposure affects comfort and safety. While most studies have examined the effects of speed, pavement roughness, and overall tire stiffness ...

Proof of Concept: Measuring Aortic Annulus Resistance by Means of Pressure-Volume Curves During Balloon Inflation to Guide Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
This study assessed the basic working principle to measure aortic annulus resistance during balloon inflation for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), by acquisition of pressure-volume curve for a guided semi-automatic implantation.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Location‐Specific Hematoma Volume Predicts Early Neurological Deterioration in Supratentorial ICH

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Early neurological deterioration (END) adversely affects outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). This study aimed to determine the location‐specific hematoma volumes for END in supratentorial ICH patients. Methods We retrospectively analyzed supratentorial ICH patients presenting from two prospective cohorts.
