Interactive Haptic System with Multimodal Tactile Sensing and Hydraulic Feedback for Realistic Human–Machine Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An interactive haptic system combining a robotic hand with a wearable tactile feedback device is presented. Driven by vision recognition, the robotic hand captures force and temperature data using multiple sensors and transmits the feedback to the user via hydraulic actuation.

Hot‐Plugging Logic‐Enabled Valves

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This miniaturized, soft, hot‐plugging, logic‐enabled valve enhances soft pneumatic robotics by eliminating the need for cutting tubing. Its two pneumatic actuators regulate operating pressure through a lower control pressure, achieving an eightfold gain at 1 Hz. By adjusting control pressures, it executes different logical functions, such as converting

A Hybrid Haptic Device Integrating Pneumatic and Electromagnetic Actuators for Realistic Tactile Signal Feedback

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A novel soft, wearable haptic device integrates pneumatic and electromagnetic actuators to improve tactile signal transmission. Optimized with finite elements method simulations, it accurately transmits high‐frequency (texture) and low‐frequency (shape) signals. Experimental validation shows its suitability for applications in master–slave robotics and

Multistable Physical Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents the integration of mechanical bistability into physical neural networks (PNNs), enabling memory retention and bridging computation with physical action. By mapping the equilibrium states of bistable, liquid‐filled chambers, it explores stability and introduces global and local training algorithms.

Electropneumatic Oscillators Using Nonlinear Inflatables

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
In animals, self‐oscillations are essential to coordinate locomotion and other bodily functions. By combining hysteretic membranes with a resistive strain sensor, an electropneumatic self‐oscillator with an oscillation frequency that directly depends upon geometric parameters in the fluidic domain is introduced.

Multifunctional Position and Stiffness Control of Soft Fluidic Actuators Using Supercooled Liquid

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work explores the use of supercooled liquid as a multifunctional working fluid for soft actuators to allow independent control of position and stiffness; the solution is used to both inflate the elastomer chambers while in liquid state and to achieve a dramatic increase in stiffness (up to 13 times) with rapid, reversible crystallization.
