Identification of functional and diverse circulating cancer‐associated fibroblasts in metastatic castration‐naïve prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...

Changes in RNA secondary structure affect NS1 protein expression during early stage influenza virus infection

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2019
RNA secondary structures play a key role in splicing, gene expression, microRNA biogenesis, RNA editing, and other biological processes. The importance of RNA structures has been demonstrated in the life cycle of RNA-containing viruses, including the ...

Modelling the species jump: towards assessing the risk of human infection from novel avian influenzas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The scientific understanding of the driving factors behind zoonotic and pandemic influenzas is hampered by complex interactions between viruses, animal hosts and humans.

Circulating tumor cells in metastatic breast cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors – a biomarker analysis of the ALICE and ICON trials

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative biomarker analysis, we assessed serial sampling of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with CellSearch in two randomized trials testing immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in metastatic breast cancer. Our data demonstrate a prognostic potential of CTCs, most apparent 4 weeks into ICI therapy.

Clinical and laboratory presentation of the influenza А (H1N1pdm 2009) in children and adults during the period of 2009-2013 in St. Petersburg

open access: yesВопросы вирусологии, 2015
Comparative analysis of the clinical laboratory data from 419 children and 468 adults hospitalized during the pandemic of A (H1N1pdm 2009) and pre- and post-pandemic periods (2010-2013) showed that the clinical presentation of the pandemic influenza in ...

Prevalence and Genetic Characteristics of Human Bocaviruses Detected in Patients with Acute Respiratory Infections in Bulgaria

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, 2021
Нuman bocaviruses (hBoVs) are often associated with acute respiratory infections (ARIs). Information on the distribution and molecular epidemiology of hBoVs in Bulgaria is currently limited. The objectives of this study were to investigate the prevalence

Host Cell Factors Necessary for Influenza A Infection: Meta-Analysis of Genome Wide Studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The Influenza A virus belongs to the Orthomyxoviridae family. Influenza virus infection occurs yearly in all countries of the world. It usually kills between 250,000 and 500,000 people and causes severe illness in millions more. Over the last century alone we have seen 3 global influenza pandemics. The great human and financial cost of this disease has

Influenza virus differentially activates mTORC1 and mTORC2 signaling to maximize late stage replication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Influenza A virus usurps host signaling factors to regulate its replication. One example is mTOR, a cellular regulator of protein synthesis, growth and motility.

Influenza A Virus Cell Entry, Replication, Virion Assembly and Movement

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Influenza viruses replicate within the nucleus of the host cell. This uncommon RNA virus trait provides influenza with the advantage of access to the nuclear machinery during replication.
