Transmission routes of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09: analyses of inflight outbreaks [PDF]

open access: yesEpidemiology and Infection, 2018
AbstractKnowledge about the infection transmission routes is significant for developing effective intervention strategies. We searched the PubMed databases and identified 10 studies with 14 possible inflight influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 outbreaks. Considering the different mechanisms of the large-droplet and airborne routes, a meta-analysis of the outbreak ...

Pre-admission statin use and in-hospital severity of 2009 pandemic influenza A(H1N1) disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this group of patients hospitalized with pandemic influenza, a significant beneficial effect of pre-admission statin use on the in-hospital course of illness was not identified.

A Sequence‐Based Update on Amino Acid Substitutions in Influenza Polymerase Acidic Protein in Europe That Alter Baloxavir Susceptibility From 2009 to 2025

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 20, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Influenza causes 650,000 deaths, 3–5 million hospitalizations, and 1 billion cases worldwide each year. There is a limited repertoire of antivirals available to tackle this burden, highlighting the risk of developing resistance to current drugs.

Impact of neuraminidase inhibitors on influenza A(H1N1)pdm09-related pneumonia: an IPD meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: The impact of neuraminidase inhibitors (NAIs) on Influenza-related pneumonia (IRP) is not established. Our objective was to investigate the association between NAI treatment and IRP incidence and outcomes in patients hospitalised with A ...

Severe community-acquired pneumonia due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa coinfection in an influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 patient

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology, Immunology and Infection, 2019
Coinfection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients with influenza is rare. Herein, we report a 39-year-old female patient who presented with severe community-acquired pneumonia due to coinfection with influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and P.

Enhanced Human Antigen‐Specific B Cell Responses Using In Vitro 3D Tonsil Cultures Containing Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 22, 12 June 2026.
We developed a fully human 3D tonsil cell culture system incorporating supportive stromal cells that better sustains and activates immune cells than conventional methods. The model generates stronger, more targeted antibody responses to viral antigens and vaccines, providing a physiologically relevant and entirely human platform for studying immune ...

Antiviral Resistance in Influenza: Clinical and Public Health Implications

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 20, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Timely antiviral treatment and prevention can diminish the morbidity and mortality caused by influenza seasonal, zoonotic, and pandemic infections. However, the emergence of antiviral resistance threatens the utility of available agents and sometimes contributes to poor clinical outcomes.

Adaptation of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus in experimental mouse models

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2016
In the present study, three mouse-adapted variants of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus were obtained by lung-to-lung passages of BALB/c, C57BL/6z and CD1 mice. The significantly increased virulence and pathogenicity of all of the mouse-adapted variants induced 100% mortality in the adapted mice.

VIRUS-SPECIFIC HUMORAL IMMUNE RESPONSE ISOTYPIC STRUCTURE IN ADULT PATIENTS HOSPITALIZED WITH INFLUENZA A

open access: yesИнфекция и иммунитет, 2016
The aim of this investigation was a comparative analysis of isotypic structure of specific antiviral systemic humoral immune response in hospitalized patients with influenza caused by virus A(H3N2) or A(H1N1), including the A(H1N1)pdm09. Paired acute and
