Human influenza A H5N1 virus related to a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus
The Lancet, 1998In May, 1997, a 3-year-old boy in Hong Kong was admitted to the hospital and subsequently died from influenza pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, Reye's syndrome, multiorgan failure, and disseminated intravascular coagulation. An influenza A H5N1 virus was isolated from a tracheal aspirate of the boy.

Abstract: The outbreaks of avian influenza A virus in poultry and humans over the last decade posed a pandemic threat to human. Here, we discuss the basic classification and the structure of influenza A virus. The viral genome contains eight RNA viral segments and the functions of viral proteins encoded by this genome are described.

A multivalent nucleoside-modified mRNA vaccine against all known influenza virus subtypes
Science, 2022Seasonal influenza vaccines offer little protection against pandemic influenza virus strains. It is difficult to create effective prepandemic vaccines because it is uncertain which influenza virus subtype will cause the next pandemic.

Influenza A Virus Reassortment
2014Reassortment is the process by which influenza viruses swap gene segments. This genetic exchange is possible due to the segmented nature of the viral genome and occurs when two differing influenza viruses co-infect a cell. The viral diversity generated through reassortment is vast and plays an important role in the evolution of influenza viruses ...

Influenza A Virus: Cellular Entry
2023The frequent emergence of pathogenic viruses with pandemic potential has posed a significant threat to human health and economy, despite enormous advances in our understanding of infection mechanisms and devising countermeasures through developing various prophylactic and therapeutic strategies. The recent coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has re-

A brief review of influenza virus infection
Journal of Medical Virology, 2021Influenza is an acute viral respiratory infection that affects all age groups and is associated with high mortality during pandemics, epidemics, and sporadic outbreaks.

We report highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) virus in dairy cattle and cats in Kansas and Texas, United States, which reflects the continued spread of clade 2.3.4.4b viruses that entered the country in late 2021.

Influenza A Virus Neuraminidase Inhibitors
2022Depending on the strain, influenza A virus causes animal, zoonotic, pandemic, or seasonal influenza with varying degrees of severity. Two surface glycoprotein spikes, hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), are the most important influenza A virus antigens.

Influenza virus serology—a comparative study
Journal of Virological Methods, 1999Virus isolation or influenza virus antigen detection are the most rapid tests for diagnosis in the acute stage of influenza virus infection. As serology is easier to carry out, the synthesis of serum IgM, IgA and IgG was studied in two well-defined patient groups, infected with influenza B virus (cohort 1, n = 37) and influenza A virus (cohort 2, n ...
