Nutrient‐based species selection is a prevalent driver of community assembly and functional trait space in tropical forests

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 111, Issue 6, Page 1218-1230, June 2023., 2023
Our results demonstrate that soil nutrient‐based species selection is a prevalent driver of community assembly in tropical forests, a process mediated by key functional traits within the leaf and wood economics spectrum. Functional space size and its filling increase with soil nutrient concentration, whereas niche vacancy decreases.

Protecting great apes from disease: Compliance with measures to reduce anthroponotic disease transmission

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 4, Issue 5, Page 1387-1400, October 2022., 2022
Abstract The emergence of infectious diseases, such as COVID‐19, impacts livelihood strategies and conservation tools reliant on human‐wildlife interactions, such as wildlife‐based tourism and research. This is particularly relevant to great ape conservation, as humans and great apes are susceptible to being infected by similar pathogens.

The Mechanism of Biochemical NO‐Sensing: Insights from Computational Chemistry

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 28, Issue 49, September 1, 2022., 2022
The production of cGMP and the resulting regulation of numerous physiological functions is regulated by the NO signaling pathway which occurs in soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC). Previously investigated by experiment, the exact details of the mechanism remain unclear, as two active states have been proposed. In this work, using computational techniques,

Modeling Communicable Diseases, Human Mobility, and Epidemics: A Review

open access: yesAnnalen der Physik, Volume 534, Issue 6, June 2022., 2022
The spatiotemporal propagation patterns of recent infectious diseases are highly influenced by human mobility. In this review, an overview of the different models addressing the impact of mobility on epidemic spreading is presented, focusing on the movement–interaction–return model and different subsequent frameworks introduced to explain the complex ...

Aromaticity and Extrusion of Benzenoids Linked to [o‐COSAN]−: Clar Has the Answer

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 134, Issue 22, May 23, 2022., 2022
Clar has the answer! Clar's π‐sextets justify the reason why the linked system of [o‐COSAN]− and benzenoid drives to extrusion in the case of naphthalene or anthracene, but not for benzene, pyrene or perylene. Abstract Benzene and pyrene can be synthetically linked to [o‐COSAN]− keeping their aromaticity.
