From Brittle to Flexible: Influence of Glucose‐Based Additives on Cellulose Nanocrystal Self‐Assembly in Suspension and Dried Photonic Films

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) self‐assemble in aqueous suspension into chiral nematic liquid crystals, resulting in structurally colored films upon drying. Here, the influence of sugar additives on CNC self‐assembly in suspension and in films are studied.

Modeling and Improving Geometric Accuracy in Projection Multiphoton Lithography

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical framework describing the optical and photochemical processes is developed to elucidate the origins of geometric deviations in projection multiphoton lithography. The results indicate that oxygen diffusion and inhibition, and DMD diffraction, lead to geometric distortions.

Mitigating Singlet Exciton Back‐Transfer using 2D Spacer Layers for Perovskite‐Sensitised Upconversion

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The efficiency of bulk perovskite‐sensitised upconversion is hindered by parasitic singlet back‐transfer. A 2D perovskite spacer layer is introduced to weaken this loss pathway by increasing the separation between the sensitiser and the emitter. The spacer layer enhances the upconversion efficiency at lower excitation powers and improves the stability ...
