Constructing personalized information agents

1998
The explosion of the World Wide Web as a global information network brings with it a number of related challenges for information agents. In this poster, we propose our architecture for constructing a personal information agent, which consists an web searching assistant and an interest domain manager responsible for the construction of the search ...

Trends in information visualisation in construction

1999 IEEE International Conference on Information Visualization (Cat. No. PR00210), 2003
It is widely recognised that construction is an information intensive and complex industry. Traditional computational techniques have failed because of the shear number of information interfaces and complex relationships. Modern visual technologies can resolve many of these problems by providing construction professionals with 3 dimensional information

Information systems: a construct of transformations

IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 1995
The paper provides a classification and typology of various configurations which make up the definition of an information system (IS). It is based on five basic building blocks: source, data, prediction, value, and action. Using those building blocks, it is possible to formally outline many configurations including data base management systems (DBMS ...

Informed Pruning in Constructive Induction

1991
This paper concerns the effect of training noise on performance in a constructive induction algorithm. We give a method for using domain theory bias in postprocessing a classification rule to correct for overfltting. The algorithm is a variant of the nearest-neighbor algorithm used in digital communication to decode a block-coded message.

The Cultural Construction of Information Technology

Journal of Global Information Management, 2001
In this paper, the author proposes a research framework called the ’cultural construction of information technology.’ It extends the more widely known concept of the social construction of technology (SCOT) and defines the concept of a cultural infrastructure for the application of information technology in other contexts than the one in which it is ...

On the Construction of Prior Information – An Info-Metrics Approach

2016
Abstract Although in principle prior information can significantly improve inference, incorporating incorrect prior information will bias the estimates of any inferential analysis. This fact deters many scientists from incorporating prior information into their inferential analyses.

CONST—a constructive approach to information modelling

Computers & Security, 1987
Abstract An approach to information modelling is presented which is based on the principles of a constructive theory and employs the formalism of production rules. In the paper a constructive approach is taken concerning the nature and representation of abstract objects (here referred to as quasi objects).

The personal construction of information space

Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 2000
The present article describes the use of Repertory Grid methodology as a means of externalizing an individual's view of information space. The method is described with a single participant, and appears to offer a viable means of exploring the concept of information space.

Pragmatic information in constructions

Belgian Journal of Linguistics, 2020
AbstractDespite recent advances in Construction Pragmatics, a systematic way for delimiting coded pragmatic information has yet to be offered. This squib provides a step in establishing such an account by assessing what kind of pragmatic information speakers generalize from various usage-events. Drawing on findings from Conversation Analysis, I propose
