Information security is information risk management

Proceedings of the 2001 workshop on New security paradigms - NSPW '01, 2001
Information security is important in proportion to an organization's dependence on information technology. When an organization's information is exposed to risk, the use of information security technology is obviously appropriate. Current information security technology, however, deals with only a small fraction of the problem of information risk.

Risk Analysis for Information Systems

Journal of Information Technology, 1992
This paper presents an integrated approach to risk analysis for Information Systems (IS) using the Structured Risk Analysis (SRA) methodology developed at Hyperion. SRA has been used, very successfully, to perform risk analysis both for security-oriented risk analysis in the City and safety-oriented risk analysis for the European Space Agency.

Information and the Risk-Averse Firm [PDF]

open access: possible, 2001
This paper has two goals. First, we demonstrate that standard arguments and methods from production and duality analysis can be used to provide a comprehensive and general treatment of the value of information for a risk-averse firm with expected-utility (linear-in-probabilities) preferences and a general stochastic technology.

Management of risk in the information age

Computers & Security, 2005
Linked together, organisations can exchange information and engage in transactions in ways unanticipated before, the emphasis being on information, which became core to most business activities and without which business will fail to operate [Owens S. Information security management :an introduction. London: British Standards Institution; 1998. pp. 1-2]

COSTLY INFORMATION AND SOVEREIGN RISK

International Economic Review, 2023
AbstractThe consequences of costly information acquisition for sovereign risk are explored in a quantitative sovereign default model. We identify information costs empirically using Bloomberg news‐heat data. The calibrated model microfounds heteroskedasticity in the country risk spread as measured by a novel metric we call the Crisis Volatility Ratio ...

Information technology risk management

Proceedings of the 5th Jerusalem Conference on Information Technology, 1990. 'Next Decade in Information Technology', 2002
The concept of information technology (IT) risk is examined, and it is argued that the generally held conception is too narrow. The sources of IT risk and several problems that arise in managing that risk are explored. Some areas where research is needed are identified, and steps that can improve an organization's understanding of and ability to manage

Information needs and risk perception as predictors of risk information seeking

Journal of Risk Research, 2008
This paper introduces a theoretical framework that describes the importance of public's information sufficiency, risk perception, and self-efficacy as predictors of intended risk information seeking behaviour. Based on theoretical assumptions, measurement instruments for relevant concepts were developed and validated using data from a mail ...

Value at Risk for Risk Evaluation in Information Retrieval

2016
In Information Retrieval (IR), evaluation metrics continuously play an important role. Recently, some risk measures have been proposed to evaluate the downside performance or the performance variance of an assumingly advanced IR method in comparison with a baseline method.

Risk Analysis for Information Technology

Journal of Management Information Systems, 1991
As Information Technology (IT) has become increasingly important to the competitive position of firms, managers have grown more sensitive to their organization's overall IT risk management. Recent publicity concerning losses incurred by companies because of problems with their sophisticated information systems has focused attention on the importance of

Mining Risk Information in Hospital Information Systems as Risk Mining

2007 IEEE/ICME International Conference on Complex Medical Engineering, 2007
This paper focuses on application of data mining to medical risk management. To err is human. However, medical practice should avoid as many errors as possible to achieve safe medicine. Thus, it is a very critical issue in clinical environment how we can avoid the near misses and achieve the medical safety.
