Constructor theory of information [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2015
We propose a theory of information expressed solely in terms of which transformations of physical systems are possible and which are impossible—i.e. in constructor-theoretic terms. It includes conjectured, exact laws of physics expressing the regularities that allow information to be physically instantiated.

Genetic Optimization of Liquid Crystal Matrix Based Interference Suppression for VLC MIMO Transmissions

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
Optical channel decorrelation is a key aspect in designing a multi-user visible light communication system. As light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are commonly used for illumination and data transmission in such a system simultaneously, the interference between

Application of information theory in systems biology

open access: yesBiophysical Reviews, 2020
Over recent years, new light has been shed on aspects of information processing in cells. The quantification of information, as described by Shannon’s information theory, is a basic and powerful tool that can be applied to various fields, such as ...

Fundamental and speculative components of the cryptocurrency pricing dynamics

open access: yesFinancial Innovation, 2023
The driving forces behind cryptoassets’ price dynamics are often perceived as being dominated by speculative factors and inherent bubble-bust episodes. Fundamental components are believed to have a weak, if any, role in the price-formation process.

Extended IMD2020: a large‐scale annotated dataset tailored for detecting manipulated images

open access: yesIET Biometrics, 2021
Image forensic datasets need to accommodate a complex diversity of systematic noise and intrinsic image artefacts to prevent any overfitting of learning methods to a small set of camera types or manipulation techniques.

Low-density parity-check codes for asymmetric distributed source coding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The research work is partially funded by the Strategic Educational Pathways Scholarship Scheme (STEPS-Malta). This scholarship is partly financed by the European Union - European Social Fund (ESF 1.25).Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes achieve good ...

Kinetic theory of information -- the dynamics of information [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A kinetic approach to the notion of information is proposed, based on Liouville kinetic theory. The general kinetic equation for the evolution of the N-particle information $\mathcal{I}_N$ in a Hamiltonian system of large particle number $N\gg 1$ is ...

Information Theory of Gravity

open access: yes, 2021
A new model of gravity is presented here similar to the earlier work of Verlinde on Emergent Gravity but without the use of Verlinde's main assumption on the nature of gravity as an entropic force using the First Law of Thermodynamics. Instead, the model will be shown to be consistent with the Second Law of Thermodynamics as used in Black Hole Physics.
